We are getting ready to go to sleep on our first night at Disney world and I think my child may have a bladder infection or UTI. What do I do??? She is 2.5 years old. This morning, before we left, she peed fine and same with the afternoon. Tonight, at Ohana, she cried when she went and said it hurt. And, throughout the second half of the day, she has been pulling at her pants.
When we got home I put her in a warm bath with no soap.
The last 2 nights in a row she had bubble baths, long ones, which I rarely let her have but I was so busy with Disney stuff I just let her sit in it. In hind sight, this was clearly a bad judgement call.
Anyway this would be her first issue with this sort of thing.
Has anyone experienced this? And, what do I do about it now that I am at Disney world???
Thank you! :(

Sorry! iPhone texting...meant to write in the subject line "may", not "mat".

I would bring her to an urgent care clinic tomorrow am. They can do a UA and if it's +, start her on a ABT
I would give Tylenol or Motrin for the discomfort tonight

Agreed. Someone will probably be along with suggestions as to where to go but you can even go to the front desk and ask them, they will have a list and be able to arrange transportation for you.

On the off chance, are you sure its her trying to go that's the issue and not just maybe that she got sweaty and chaffed? I mean either way you should probably still have her checked out just for peace of mind and comfort for the rest of your trip.

We were at the MK in May 2008 when my son's asthma started flaring up. Somehow, we had packed EVERYTHING except his inhaler. We went to First Aid. They called a van, took us out backstage, drove us to a clinic. When we were finished, they drove us to the pharmacy & brought us back to our resort. Disney was GREAT!

Call your resort concierge. I know they took GREAT care of us.

Call the front desk and they will give you doc or clinic options. I think there are docs that do visits too. A quick urine sample should be able to determine if it's in fact a UTI. Good luck.

Also, feed her yogurt and cranberry juice if you can. These things can help and ward off bladder infections etc.

Depending on your pediatrician and how often you dd takes antibiotics.... Your ped may just call in a script to treat a uti without a positive urine sample. And follow up with a sample when u get home to make sure it's gone. Otherwise ask the front desk... Depending on your situation make sure the doctor participates with your insurance.

Be prepared with a phone number for a near by pharmacy to provide your doctor...

Go ask the front desk. I'm confused as to why your immediate thought is to ask a message board. If you need immediate help ask the people who can help you immediately.

Thank you all so much! I am saving this thread and the suggestions.
This morning, there were no complaints when she went to the bathroom. Maybe the warm bath helped? It must have.
Either way I am keeping the advice you all gave me close at hand for the remainder of our stay- which is only until sunday.

I really appreciate your responses, and thank u so much.

I would just watch her today then, and force lots of fluids, and no caffeine. If there is any more issues, call her doctor at home first. She or he knows your child and can suggest ideas, a medication or where to go in the area. One thought is that if indeed she has a true UTI, many doctors now suggest testing even after the first one. If you would get one of these doctors somewhere in Orlando, make it clear that you will defer those test until you get home and have her see your own doctor. Treatment for the acute problem is needed right away, testing is not.

I would push the liquids - anything you can get her to drink (even if you have to resort to sprite/ginger ale). If by the end of the day it isn't better OR if she is running a fever at any point I would take her to urgent care.

My DD is now 6 - she often 'forgets' to drink when she is busy and having fun - it can lead to VERY painful urination - even without an infection (I have spent countless times in urgent care SURE she has an infection to find out she is mildly dehydrated).

If there's a suspected UTI in our house we drink drink drink and eat garlic cloves (they have antibiotic properties)....however don't think a 2.5 year old would eat that, lol. So I would just have her drink plenty of fluids, preferably water. Hope she's better soon!

Hi,
When we were there, my daughter was complaining her ears hurt. (She often had ear infections, so I was concerned that she had one). There is a first aid station in Magic Kingdom right near Casey's and Crystal Palace. They had all the information for transport to clinics etc. right there. there was also a nurse there.
What we did is contacted my home pediatrician, who called in a prescription to a pharmacy called Turner Drug. They deliver right to your resort. The front desk received it and refrigerated it until we got there. It was amazing how easy they made everything. Maybe that would work if she needs meds?

This may sound gross or off the wall however you look at it. But if you find yourself in a bind meaning she really has to pee but she is afraid to because it hurts.
Run a tub of water enough to cover her bottom girly part - afraid if I use the correct term I would get in trouble by the moderators- and encourage her to pee in the bath water and it won't hurt for her to pee! I remember when I was small I had a UTI and cried because I knew it would hurt to pee but the Dr. told my Mom about this little trick and it worked!

Disney can also call a doctor for you who will make a house call to your room! Just ask at the front desk.

Cranberry juice you can even have the flavored ones ie cranblueberry

Water it down with water, 50/50.

Lots of liquids avoid the caffine

On a side note, sometimes when you get backed up, a bm could cause the systems of a uti.

Not sure if you're staying on site, but if you are and you purchased trip insurance, my understanding is that they will send a physician to your room. Good luck! Hope she feels better soon!!
