Hi,

Another one of my good friends decided to join us on our disney trip, however, she is a vegetarian. This will also be her first time in WDW and I want to make sure she doesn't have to starve. Im looking for restaurants with the largest variety of vegetarian food (the recent posts usually just stated that each restaurant only has 1 entree, I was wondering if there were places that had 5+), price doesn't matter to an extent! I have ordered "Vegetarian Walt Disney World and Greater Orlando" but value this forum much more. The places I had so far

1) Sci Fi drive in (probably will cancel)
2) Breakfast at crystal palace (will probably keep)
3) Wolfgang (walk-in, booked for 5 days we will be there)
4) Jiko (probably cancel, only had 1 maybe 2 veg meals)

Thank you again

Best vegetarian is Boma. They also have a nice selection of food that vegans can eat.

Have your veggie friend look at allears.net and wdwinfo.com; both have the menus online. And I think wdwinfo even has a section about vegetarian eating.

You might want to confirm if sci fi has veggie burgers to sub for the meat; I know that would make me happy enough with it to eat there, just for the fun of it all! Though if your friend is actually vegan, it might not be fun.

The one restaurant I'm yearning to try is Tusker House at AK. The menu online looks amazing to me.

Well, I would cancel Sci Fi because it's lousy, not because of the vegetarian going along. :rotfl: The other three restaurants should be fine, or switch Jiko to Boma if you'd rather cancel it. Boma is an awesome restaurant for vegetarians, and it's in the same resort as Jiko, so it won't mess with any of your plans if you switch.

Breakfasts are the easiest meals for us, and buffets are generally a good bet when considering variety. You're not really going to find too many non-buffet places with more than one entree choice for a vegetarian. But honestly, we're used to it. Everybody likes Italian, and all the parks except Animal Kingdom has an Italian restaurant, if you need to fill in a spot--Mama Melrose would be a good replacement for Sci-Fi. Rainforest Cafe and Tusker House would be good for AK.

I would be weary of Wolfgang. Their quality wasn't good the last time I went.
Also please remember you can talk to the chef and they can make you something.

Tusker house had a lot of vegetarian

Boma is great for vegetarians, and Tusker House seems to also have some similiar items.

Sci Fi does have veggie burgers upon request, I think they also have a tofu dish at dinner. I ordered the Ruben w/o the meat for a twist on a grilled cheese sandwich. It was so-so, but the onion rings were great and it was a fun place to eat.

Crystal Palace has a good amount of choices on the lunch/dinner buffet.

Really your best bet for variety is a buffet. Most TS have just one veg entree, but many places will also make some kind of pasta if you ask.

CA Grill and San Angel both have a veg menu option, but I've never tried either one.

Best vegetarian is Boma. They also have a nice selection of food that vegans can eat.

Make sure you have the chef take her around the buffet to explain what ingredients are in each dish. Many of the Boma's dishes appear to be vegetarian but actually have chicken stock!

I have an ADR for Sci-Fi. I alway get the pasta dish, but without the shrimp. It has never been a problem.

Any of the "family style" places will put the non-meat items on a seperate plate if you ask. They did this for us at Garden Grill. All the vegatables, potatoes, etc came in one skillet and the meat in another.

The tofu dish at Coral Reef was very good, I think it is new because I just had it at Easter but did not see it on AllEars before I went. Also, I really enjoyed my meal at Les Chefs de France, and they had 2 vegetarian options. I chose the vegetarian lasagna which was really tasty! I actually will post a picture in my TR soon, so check it out! I also thought that Ohana was really good for vegetarians now that they include the pasta dish. You can make a whole meal of that pasta! You also could eat the salad, veggies, and the bread. They also offered me the option of my own 3 course veggie meal. At Jiko my wonderful waitress let me get the tamales as my entree (I was on the DDP) along with the mac & cheese!!! (SO GOOD!) Basically your best bet is to book at restaurants that have vegetarian options, or ones that offer vegetarian alternatives. Let them know you are coming, and that way you can talk to the chef once you are there and they can make a meal according to your needs. I let them know I was coming and that this would be a possibility but I ended up finding things I liked on the regular menus. (WCC had a veggie enchilada that was pretty gross, so beware)

In addition to the great suggestions above, we have done these:

Cape May dinner -- great salad bar, lots of cooked vegetables, and the chef will always make a vegetarian pasta dish with any veggies you want.

Spoodles -- many choices among the appetizers, plus they have a delicious perogi dish (not on the menu), and will take sausage out of one of the pasta dishes. All excellent!

Boardwalk bakery -- has my current favorite counter service item -- the grilled veggie panini sandwich.

I think DHS Backlot express is also now serving a grilled veggie sandwich that is yummy. :)

The Tusker House buffet would be a great choice. There were lots of grain dishes (quinoa, couscous, pilaf), a tofu and veggie dish, spicy veggie samosas, and several vegetable and salad dishes. And the desserts, wow! I think they have one of the best selection of desserts at WDW.

For counter service, the Columbia Harbor House in the MK has a yummy hummus and broccoli slaw sandwich and veggie chili, and the CS at Morroco has a a veggie wrap and a veggie platter with hummus, couscous and taboubleh that's gotten great reviews on this board.

I hope you and your friends have a great time!

Hi,

1) Sci Fi drive in (probably will cancel) We actually found plenty to eat at Hollywood & Vine. Nothing fancy, but good enough. Buffets tend to offer good selections and the ability to get enough for vegetarians
2) Breakfast at crystal palace (will probably keep) Made my first ADR for this place, but I chose lunch/dinner they have some great item listed, unique veggies, salad and even tofu on the menu
3) Wolfgang (walk-in, booked for 5 days we will be there)
4) Jiko (probably cancel, only had 1 maybe 2 veg meals) Would absolutely keep this one, hope you can stretch the ADR to include your friend

Thank you again

I am a vegetarian too!

A couple of other places: breakfast ADRs, especially if he/she eats eggs. As previously mentioned, Boma. One of the rare treats for us vegetarians is the soup pod there. We so often can't have soup out because they are made with chicken stock. The Plaza has a very popular veggie sandwich, the strawberry salad can be made w/o chicken and the tomato soup there may also be vegetarian. Besides the desserts at the Plaza should make everyone else in the group pretty happy too. A big sundae or banana split on Main St, somebody pinch me now!

I wouldn't waste a TS credit if you're on the DP hunting a veggie burger. They are readily available at many CS places, including the resorts. Beaches and Cream is one of the exceptions, but that menu more closely resembles CS even though it cost a TS credit. She can also consider some of the kids menus (grilled cheese, no Uncrustable PB&J) and of course there is plenty of pizza available at WDW.
