Please help! Airline suggestions out of Detroit?

We're booked to fly with northwest airline on Sunday. However, the mechanics of the airline may be going on strike and it's rumoured that there will be major delays or cancellations come Saturday! It has been recommended that we investigate alternative airlines. I have no idea what airlines to use out of Detroit airport. Could someone help and/or point me in the right direction? TIA I'm trying to be calm!!

Is Spirit part of Northwest? I'd check them out. I was seeing really low fares from Detroit to Orlando.

A good friend lives in St Thomas and she always uses Spirit.

A lot of airlines group together and for a fee (usually about $25) you can use your Northwest Ticket on another carrier, you'd just have to start calling local airlines or try Northwest themselves.

I live in Metro Detroit and the only other carrier I know of with direct flights to Orlando is Spirit Airlines. We've flown them a couple of times to Florida and aren't bad. You may get lucky though and the strike may not happen this weekend. I heard on the news this morning that there may be an extension of the deadline. Best of luck to you!

The only other non stop from Metro Detroit that I know of is Spirit Air. I believe that Air Tran flies a non stop flight from Flint which is relatively close. I would check Orbitz or a similar site before you go to see who's flying to Orlando that day and their schedules. That way if worse comes to worse and you need to fly another airline you know what your options are.

Thank you everyone!! I'm investigating all of your ideas. The problem I'm encountering right now is no flights leaving on Sunday afternoon. It's not possible for us to get to Detroit before Sunday morning due to obligations. I'm thinking it may be better to leave from Pearson instead since I have found a few flights leaving from there (and direct flights too). I'm still checking out some of your ideas. Thanks so much. It's better to be armed with info than to just wing it!
