We were in Norwich - 3hrs from home - taking DS to Uni when my friend called asking me go to go her house as her DH had just died

She was out shopping with their 4 year old when he called to say he didnt feel well and was going to lie down - when she got home 45 minutes later he was already dead

So we had a quick rush round to finish DS shopping and sped off down the motorway home to be with her.

He was 45, a bit overwieght - but not much - and had stopped smoking a year ago. She is 36.

He leaves behind 4 other older children, 3 of whom live with my friend.

I really dont know what to think - am used to do with people dying in my job but its soo different when its people close to you. And the worse bit is I dont think we'll be here for the funeral as he's got to have a post morten and we leave a week on Friday.

Please tell you loved ones how much you love them.

So sorry to hear about your friend's DH

A death at anytime is so devastating but when it comes suddenly without illness and no chance of goodbyes its truly awful. My friends hubbie died the same way he was a postman and been out early delivering his mail and came home saying he wasn't too well. My friend went out to pick kids up from school and came home and her hubbie had died in that 15 mins. He was in his early 40s.

Oh Katie Awful news and it must be very difficult to have to think you may have to leave your friend for your holiday. You cannot help this though and I'm sure in time your friend will understand.

Death at any time is always hard to deal with, but when it's very unexpected like this it's just cruel. We lost my Granddad very quickly like this and it's just not nice thinking you'll never be able to say what you wanted too them, it's amazing that we take people being here for granted and once they're gone it's such a shock thinking of things you'd wish you'd said.

Thoughts with your friend and her children, and your family also. Stay strong for your friend, as much as you can, she'll need your support as well as many others

It's so shocking when it is unexpected and the person is young. I just found out that someone I taught years ago died last week. He was 31 and left behind a young daughter.

I'm so sorry. Sudden death is so hard to deal with. I feel so bad for his children. I was 19 when my dad suddenly died. He was only 43, so I know what they must be feeling. There are no words and it's awful never having had the chance to say goodbye.

How very sad for your friend and all who know them.
My DD is 14 and one of her friends died from a virus very unexpectedly this year. Its just awful dealing with the grief and shock when people die so suddenly .
