Ok, so I loved the Poly in December and I am ready to go back!! This time I want to go CONCIERGE!! I need all the info you can give. Which floor? We have a 5 and 7 year old, so how is the food. My kids love to snack and so do we,LOL. Can you take any of the food to your room and can you take any water with you to the parks? What about the smoke smell, I have to have non-smoking, but I want a balcony. Most of all, is it worth the extra $? Thanks to all that can answer any of these questions. POLYNESIAN here we come!!!! (June 8-18th)

Come on guys. Has anyone stayed at Poly Concierge? Please, any information would be great. :D

I'll bump this up since I am also interested in what people have to say about the concierge at the Poly.

Let's hope you get some responses!

We stayed in a first floor patio room (GV concierge) last month (Dec. 19-25) and really enjoyed it. However, you'll see other threads on this board where people hated it, so I guess it's either a "loved it" or "hated it" thing and no in-between. :D
That said, we spent a lot of time in our room because we had just come off the Wonder cruise and it was more of a relaxation time for us than park time, although we did go to MK, AK and my older son went to Disney Quest a couple of times. Anyway, with so much resort time we really took advantage of the concierge lounge, so I'm pretty sure we got our money's worth. I'm not going to re-post everything as I did a "mini report" when we returned, but you can e-mail me for more info if you'd like.

I have stayed at the Poly concierge twice--lagoon view concierge in Dec. '01 and garden view concierge in Dec. '02. Though our garden view was nice (it overlooked the quiet pool and some landscaping), the lagoon view room we had (#1512 on the first floor) was really incredible! We could see the castle directly out our window. We could also see the GF and Contemporary from our room. It is my understanding that only the 2nd floor (no balconies) is non-smoking and the 1st and 3rd floors are smoking optional. When we stayed on the 1st floor in 2001, we did not notice a smoke smell in our room. The food in the concierge lounge is terrific! They do have trays so you can take the food back to your room to eat it. They also have bottled water and cokes that you can take into the parks if you'd like. I found it to be worth the extra money. :) Also, the restaurants at the Poly are superb when you're in the mood for more substantial food than in the concierge lounge. 'Ohana and the Kona Cafe are 2 of my 3 favorite restaurants at WDW! Here are links to pictures from my stays at the Poly concierge in Dec. 2001 and Dec. 2002.

We just got back yesterday from a lagoon view concierge room. It was amazing! The main feature for us was the magic kingdom view. Looking out at the castle day and night was such a magical extra. The lounge really was just a secondary perk for us. We only used it for breakfast, which was just a continental type breakfast. It's enough for the kids- they have mini muffins, danish, cereal, etc. Just don't go there expecting to substitute the lounge for your other meals. There is nothing substantial between 10:30am and 5:00pm (some cookies, candy, water and soda) but it is nice to grab these things on your way out to the park. Evening appetizers are from 5-7:00pm, but we always plan special dinners at Disney, so we didn't use this at all. We walked through one night and it was chicken wings and potato salad, fruit salad and vegatables with dip. Yes, you can take things out and they even have trays for you to take to your room. We didn't feel that a garden view would be worth all the extra money just for the lounge (that's just us) because we didn't really use the concierge desk. We always make our priority seatings from home way ahead of time- (I love the planning). You just need to calculate whether you will use the lounge enough to warrant the extra money verses buying or bringing the same type of items- a pack of water bottles, muffins, cookies and just keeping them in your room. If you can't get lagoon view, I'd stay in a non-concierge room and spend the extra money on special things at Disney (character meals, etc.) If you can afford lagoon view and still be able to do nice meals (P.S. Ohana is fabulous) WOO HOO! You'll love waking up in the middle of the night and seeing the castle change colors. As for the smoky rooms- our first room WAS smoky. We asked to be moved and the next room was perfect. This was on the third floor. The staff was very nice and apologetic. We loved our stay at the Polynesian. Hope you do too!

From what Im reading view is very important!! I came back a few weeks ago from a not so wonderful stay at the poly!
I had a first floor GV room and it was very loud!! And it smelled old (dirty)
The lounge was good. and if you have stayed at the poly before and loved it Im sure you will be happy with your stay in the concierge.
We just prefer the Yacht club and like another poster said its all in personal taste.

We have stayed in a thid floor lagoon view concierge room in Dec 2001. The view of MK was very nice, but I would not do it again. The concierge lounge for us had nothing to offer. 2 adult 1 child. The only thing we actually used were taking water bottles and soda to our room or to the park and even with my AP rate I don't think we used that much drink. I do think there were many people who felt like us since the lounge was almost always empty anyway. Save your money request for the MK view with standard water view.

You won't be able to get a non-smoking room with a balcony there. Third floor is the only one with balcony rooms and those are smoking.:D

I would point out that during the time you are going, requesting a LV in non-concierge at Polynesian would cost you only $10 per night less than a GV concierge. A LV concierge would be around $50, maybe more, per night than a GV concierge. Whether or not the view is worth the additional $50+ p/night in concierge is up to you. We've done both on more than one occasion--at this point, it isn't that important to us.

As to not using the lounge for evening service, I say skip the "nice evening" meals and make your "nice" meal a large lunch. Exceptions being, of course, those meals that only serve at night--HDD, Luau, Cape May, etc. Lunches are less expensive and typically nearly the same menu as dinner--portions are also nearly identical. That frees you to return to the hotel in the late afternoon for your swim, dress for a park in the evening AND take advantage of evening service. The big debate is whether or not the appetizers are plentiful enough to "skip" the dinner meal. We have never had a problem there--we don't tend to eat that much in the evening after a day of park play, swimming, etc. Then there are always those desserts for the late evening munchies! :)

Just a thought to add to the rest. . .we all have our own preferences, that's for sure. ;)

BTW, yes--to water bottles, coke, etc.--you are free to take what you wish from the lounge to your room, pools, parks, etc.

Stay Conceirge!!!

It was our very first stay at the Poly, and the second we got there I knew I was going to be in love!! We stayed GV and even penny pincher DH wanted to upgrade to the LV when he saw the location. We were on the first floor and we really liked it. WHEN I go again we both decided we will stay LV first floor. Just imagine sitting there on the beach................................
We did take the kids there quite a few times so being on the first floor and just being able to open the doors to let them lounge on the beach would be awesome. And the view just goes without saying.

As far as the lounge I also loved that. We had breakfast there almost every day. I need my tea ASAP and my twins are early risers, so we set off for the lounge and let the lazys join us when ready. I think the sofas and big screen tv were a big bonus for us though. My twins were just getting ready to turn 3 so it was a sure fire comfy way for them to have breakfast. It beat any resturaunt. And there was plenty of food to choose from. And yes you can bring food back to your room too. They are SOOO acomodating. I do wish they had some other snacks during mid afternoon. The cookies were great but they get to you after a while.

We got our moneys worth.

And dont forget how close you are to the Volcano pool.

Its an awesome place to stay.
go for it

In June I believe the Hawaii building will be under refurbishment and Concierge will be in the Tahiti building so you would be able to have a nonsmoking room with a balcony. Someone correct me if I am mistaken. We have stayed at the Polyesian 3 times, the last time concierge and LOVED it. In fact we are going again this summer and we are staying there again.

A couple of years ago we did the Grand Plan at the Poly and while we were in a different building we had access to the Concierge amenities. They were great. The food at the Poly concierge is better than the food at the AKL concierge in my opinion.
