We must be heading to Disney soon because dd (3) has a night-time nagging cough. Whenever she gets a slight cold, it turns into this cough at night. This is what we've done so far...

Delsym (the strongest cough medicine on the market)
Propped pillows
Vicks on chest
Sips of water

Oye, oye, oye... If I don't get sleep soon... and if she does this at Disney, can you see us after two nights?

Please, does ANYONE have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Lemon and honey. Ok, I would add a little alcholic beverage to mine for night time, but you might want to stick to just the lemon and honey for your daughter. I mix some up in a cup and microwave it so the honey is not so thick. I just take a teaspoonful when ever the cough starts up - no waiting for 4 hours for the next dose! Works like a charm. A couple of years ago I had a nagging cough that lasted from Jan to June, and the lemon and honey gave me the best results, besides it tasted better than most of the cough syrups.

Just add lemon juice to some honey - don't have any set recipe.

Good luck - there's nothing worse than listening to someone cough all night!!!!!!!!!!

When my dd coughs at night it's allergy time. She is lilke me and has post nasal drip that makes her cough. The pediatrician prescribed Claritin several years ago and now we can get it over the counter.
Hope you get some sleep soon.:D

Please, make a doctor's appointment. My daughter had that as well and it turned out that she needed Albuterol through a Nebulizer. Asthmatics often cough at night. Once again, I urge you, see the doctor.

Of course, JTB's right. I meant to "imply;) " a visit to the doctor is due.:D

I have allergies and the exact same thing happens to me! Is it a wet cough? because I will literally wake up choking because the nasel drip is so bad(gross, I know) The only thing that helps me is an allergy medication claritan, zyrtec etc.......I've taken them all. I'd say take her to the doctors just to rule out anything more serious and then get her on some allergy medication to help her. I thought I was just getting some colds too but it turned out I'd developed allergies.

Hope she feels better real soon and your both getting a good nights rest!

gotta agree with everybody else. Nighttime cough is a symptom of allergies/asthma. Go to the dr's. He will give you something that really will help.

I'll have to say that for my 12yo dd it is allergies and that is the cue to take Claritin and for my 6yo she needs asthma meds and/or allergy meds as well.

I also will totally dedust the rooms with a fine tooth comb including vacuuming the mattresses and clearing out all stuffed animals until the coughing stops.

I had a nagging cough last fall and kept trying to battle it out on my own with OTC meds. I finally had enough after about 2 months of coughs.:o I had bronchitis. I've never been diagnosed with it before until then.

I hope your cough goes away soon.:)
