I really wanted a Disney wedding but DF wanted it to be at home, with family. So we're having a Disney honeymoon instead.

My mother is not keen on the whole idea of me getting married again - she didn't want me to have a proper wedding, and she keeps going on about me getting a nice two piece outfit which is not white, or ivory. But, I want a real wedding dress.

I wil be 37 when we get married. Is this too old for a traditional dress?

Are you kidding? You are in your prime; definately not to old for a wedding dress! I have heard of quite a few people on here around your age who have got married wearing a white fairytale wedding dress.
As for being your second marriage; dont let that bother you; people wont be thinking about that when they see you on your big day.
My mum wore a white wedding dress for her second wedding and i thought she looked lovely; and hopefully this time around it will work out! :teeth:

You do what makes you happy, no one else; it is your day and should be a day to remember not a day of regrets.

No you're not too old.
I thought this when I was buying my dress. I was to be 37 the day before my wedding. I always had intentions of wearing a dress, just unsure of the colour.
I did wear ivory, but I also did buy a white fairytale style dress that I wish I had have worn now. I tried it on over the weekend as I put it on ebay and wanted some photographs for it, and I just loved it. It is very fitting for a Disney wedding.
37 is not old, and you dont have to be 21 to wear white .Wear your dream dress with pride.

....I just thought, with your user id being Cinderella, you must love the fairytale.
It should be a fairytale ballgown!! Go for it girl!!
ps have you seen the hollywood dreams wedding dresses? fairytale gowns to die for.

No you are not to old. At the end of the day it is your big day, if you want to wear a fairytale dress then do, what ever colour you want. If you do something else to please other people you will end up regretting it!

No, never too old. I am older than you are and just did a vow renewal with the whole wedding gown, tiara, etc. And, my original wedding was a big sit-down affair as well!

As far as I am aware the only "etiquette" regarding second wedding attire is that a veil is not worn. And if you want to wear one of those too, then go for it. Anyone who would rain on your pradade isn't worth inviting.

Go for the fairytale! princess: No, you're not too old!!! We were just married April 25th at WDW. It was both our second marriage, I am 51 and DH 55. I wore the white princess gown. Unless you are planning on dressing up as Cinderella for Halloween this is your chance. Be a Princess and be proud! Of course that's easy for me to say, my mother passed away last year and I'm sure she was spinning in her grave.

It's YOUR wedding and no you can never be to old to wear a wedding dress. Go and be a princess for a day for YOUR wedding. Don't let anyone rain on your parade- if it is what you have always dreamed of and want then go for it.

Cinderella - listen to what the other girls have to say... there's a LOT of wisdom on this board. They are right though. I am 30. My DF and I had a child when we were 19 - no intentions of getting married... but the man upstairs had other plans for us... we are both 30, our daughter is 10, I am wearing a Cinderella ball gown that will blow everyone away, with a tiara, and then, later on, I will be changing into a different dress that I bought from David's for $99. My DF and I want to dance to the song from Zorro - the one where they are trying to distract Elena's father... very sexy, very spanish... it's going to be hard for this German-Irish girl to get some rhythm, but it sounds like so much fun!!! Anyway, he's half Puerto Rican and 1/2 English... funny mix...

Anyway, back to the issue at hand... do what makes you happy... there is nothing saying you can't wear a white traditional gown if that's what is going to make you happy... do you really want to start off a marriage with regrets? Go with your heart... everyone else will get over it eventually... and if they don't, is it really worth your time worrying about then? No. Have fun and enjoy the process... I know I finally am... :goodvibes

Here's some pixie dust :wizard: :wizard: Good luck!!

Cinderella- I completely agree with what everyone else has to say :thumbsup2 This is YOUR big day, regardless if it's your 1st, 2nd, or 3rd marriage. You should wear what YOU want! I am having the opposite problem. I am 24, this will be my first wedding, and everyone expects me to have the big fancy wedding dress. Well, that's just not me. I am wearing a super-plain sundress that falls just below my knees. I am still not sure if I even want to wear a veil. My family has been telling me I am going to regret not having the long, fancy, train dress, but I highly doubt it.

Just do what makes you happy :) Wear the Cinderella dress in white or ivory. Best of luck to you!

it's a free country isn't it? do whatever makes YOU happy.

as for color, i prefer IVORY. I feel like 'white' often looks cheap. even some really expensive gowns i've seen look cheap in white but gorgeous in ivory. it's just a richer, warmer tone.

personally i love ivory with black detailing. like maybe black lace or a black bow, or black ribbon lacing up the back. it's not traditional but it's beautiful and elegant!

post your wedding photo for us after your wedding so we can all see how beautiful you looked!!!

Thanks everyone - you have all made me feel so much better about this. Now, I just need to lose all the weight I have put on in the last year (about a stone and a half!!), and find my dream dress. Thanks for the link Janine. I am going to check those dresses out right now. :cheer2:

You are never too old. It is your day. Where what you want>

Your mom must come from the same generation as mine. You just didn't wear white on the 2nd wedding.
But then there's my sister, who is now on her 5th marriage...
she wore ivory for first, white for the 2nd, big fancy white for 3rd, white evening gown for 4th and similar for 5th.
She's not shameful! :rotfl:

I wore white for my 1st and an off-white wedding dress for 2nd...This marriage is my last and I knew I had found my soulmate, so I knew I wanted this dress to be pretty and something that I chose by myself.

I don't think you'll regret it one bit. It's not wrong to want to feel like a princess, it's perfectly normal.

And for the record, my mom and dad weren't keen on me getting married again either. They didn't even come to my wedding, which we flew to PA for and held in a beautiful garden with a reception dinner afterwards. They looked like fools, since my new in-laws were there and my sister and her family, and that's it, but it was still wonderful!

So go plan this special day, because it is all about you and your new DH, and the rest of your lives together...and it's not about your parents.

Congratulations to you!!!! :bride: :groom:

First off, a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to you!!! I think it's fabulous that you are getting married and you should wear whatever you want to wear. It's a very special day and you deserve to celebrate it in anyway you choose to! Y'know I've never gotten that "dress down" for the second wedding thing...as though it's shameful to be getting married a second time. Are you somehow unworthy of a beautiful white gown? White is the symbol of a NEW LIFE, which getting married always signifies.

Life is too short...if you are happy, then show it! Do it big!!! You should celebrate that you were able to move forward and find love again. My mom is from the school of "i'm not worthy" and she's been divorced and single since I was in the second grade. I don't know if she will ever remarry even though she desperately wants to...it breaks my heart. I say if you have found happiness, then you celebrate it girl! You are young and deserving a big send off to your new life!

Congrats to you and your sweetie!!!

Cinderella, this i my second marriage also, and I'm wearing a wedding gown the only difference is that it is ivory and not white. Like everyone else mentioned it is your wedding and if you want to wear a gown then you should and by the way u are never too old to wear something that you want to wear, epecially if it makes u happy. ur happiness should not be at the expense of someone else, so wear your gown and wear it proud. :wizard: :cheer2:

Just come across this thread and wondered if you've found your perfect dress yet? I have to agree with everyone else - it's a special day and you deserve to feel special, so wear your dream dress and feel like a princess - you'll be in the right place for it!
This is my 2nd marriage, and I had everything as grand as my first - big dress (ivory 'cos it suited me best), horse and carriage etc. I wanted to celebrate the fact that I was getting married, (regardless that my 1st didn't work out). I'll be 40 next year and we're renewing our vows as this has been my dream for years and years. I'll be wearing my 'fairytale' gown that I wore 11 years ago (at least I can say I got my money's worth from it!) as I still love it (altho' I've got about 6 stones to lose in 18 months to achieve that!).
I really hope you have found your dress and have a fantastic day wearing it.
