Please give brutally honest feedback about Biergarten

My husband has been pushing me to try this restaurant for the past three trips to WDW.

I finally gave in and now I'm reading (and hearing) negative remarks about it.

Can anyone who has been recently give me a run-down on the food, service, and atmosphere? I would REALLY appreciate any comments you can give me.

Oh, and there will be only two of us (my husband and me)...so what's this I hear about sharing tables with other guests? Is it like a banquet-style table?

You will definitely be eating with other people. The tables sit six to eight people.

We've enjoyed the food. As with Disney some meals there are better then others. I will say we did the Candlelight Procession dinner their one Christmas Eve 3 years ago and it ranks as one of our best meals on property.

The little floor show is very cute.

You should really like German style food there to enjoy it. Sour meat, german sausages, kraut, it's that type of food. I think they have roasted chicken also. It's all you can eat and it's a buffet style you get up and get your own.

It's not a place we eat on every trip but we do enjoy it. However, we do cook those foods at home. I make homemade sauerbraten about 4 or 5 times a year. While Disney's is good, mine is better.

I like it- atmosphere is fun- try to go when the Ooompah band is playing (check http://pages.prodigy.net/stevesoares/ ) for the schedule. Food is good - not Victoria and ALberts mind you- but there is a tasy selection. Good Beer. If you don't want to sit right next to someone else- tell the hostess - You probably won't get your own table- but they might be able to sit you with spaces between you and the next folks- also tell them if it's a romantic occasion, and that you'd like to not be seated with children if that's your preference- they are pretty good about trying to accomodate people. Go with an open mind and have fun!

I'm in a minority, but UGH! I did not enjoy Biergarten at all.

The sauerkraut (this is on my top ten list of foods to AVOID at all costs!) made practically everything taste and smell like sauerkraut. Even the roasted chicken tasted like sauerkraut!

Add to this the very LOUD oop-pah music and the fact that the servers want you to sway back and forth to the music -- while trying to eat -- it was just an unpleasant experience for me.

However, my MIL and DW had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the show during the meal. I did enjoy meeting several new people at our table and it was fun to run into them again after the meal and on subsequent days. They would always joke with me and ask if I'd gotten the taste of sauerkraut out of my mouth yet!

I loved Biergarten on our last trip, and so wanted to go back for our upcoming trip. Unfortunately, the food doesn't like DH very well, and had an upset stomach from it. His stomach lining must not have been able to handle it

You may end up eating with other people - but we had three in our party, and no one was seated next to us until we were ready to leave. I am pretty shy, and I am sure someone would have thought I was a snob for not talking, so glad we avoided that!

I always say, give something a try, and if you don't like it, atleast you can say you made the decision! Don't let others dissuade you from trying something if you are looking forward to it. If you don't like it, you then know not to go back!

To be honest, it doesn't seem like my cup of tea, but my husband will probably enjoy it.

I guess I can let him have at least ONE restaurant that was his choice...

I loved the atmosphere but the food was awful! I wouldn't do it again.

You could always try the counter service "Sommerfest" directly out front first to see if the food is going to be worth the extra $$$ for the Biergarten - we loved it, and ate there twice in one day!(but I can imagine it's not for everyone! Sauerkraut mmmm!)

Just be sure to stop in at the candy store across the courtyard after and check out the Gummi treats of every description, and the fabulous fudge! Yum!

We went to the Biergarten in January for the first time. We made a PS earlier in the day (for me that's the height of spontaneity) for lunch. There were four of us and we were seated with another party of four, but we were all happy just to smile and leave it at that. Our servers seemed content to let us just eat - I have to say that swaying wouldn't have been on my top ten list of things to do while eating. We all enjoyed the food - even picky DS found carrots, rice, chicken soup and excellent rolls to eat. (When you're a picky eater roll quality is very important). DH and I enjoyed everything, although I would say the deserts were not very impressive.

After letting my husband read all of your responses, he's not sure if he wants to eat here anymore.

We're not really "swaying in groups of eight to oom-pah music" kind of people. And the sauerkraut smell ABSOLUTELY does not appeal to me.

We go in September.

We're going to give it some more thought.

We avoided eating at Biergarten for quite a while and now that we've tried it, we're kicking ourselves for not eating there sooner. We've gone back and will go back again. We like the food and the entertainment. Check out my PICTURES.

I would probably enjoy it..as I had a old country German grandmother..

But my DH does not like sauerkraut! I'd probably eat there easily, but getting him to eat it would be tricky.

I would use my Q & C vouchers for Somerfest, but agian the sauerkraut is an issue for him

Biergarten is my DS11 #1 choice for a meal at WDW! We have been there 3 times. The food is not spectacular, but it is good. We have been seated with other families, but do not feel we have to talk to them for the entire meal. We were also never encouraged to "sway." DS has also been chosen as "bandleader!"

I say go for it, you'll never know unless you try.

Last Jan we were deperate to eat somewhere and could not get in without a PS. My German parents who went sperate from us just spoke to the CM in German and were seated immediately,lol! My parents who are a very tough audience gave it a thumbs up. They thought the food was good, although Mom's is better. They enjoyed being seated with some 20 somethings that asked them all about the Beer halls in Germany. The swaying back and forth, singing etc is all part of the Gemutlichkeit of a German Beer hall. If its not your cup of tea you won't enjoy yourself!

I am not sure sometimes what people expect when they make arrangements to eat here. It is basically the world famous Octoberfest in Florida. Singing, swaying, raising your beers is what it is all about. It is a small piece of Germany located here. The food is average, everyone liked it but did not rave, but the show was awesome. My parents lived over there while in the military and said this show was a great reminder. It was fun and I think worth a shot.

This is a must on our next trip. I am not a German food lover but DH is German and LOVED it! We ate there 2 times on our last trip. I did enjoy quite a few things. DH ate so much he couldn't eat dinner, which is saying a lot, he is a huge eater. Try it. I don't eat saurkrat b/c it makes me sick and besides have you ever seen how it is made? But I didn't find the non- saurkrat items to taste like it at all. We sat with another couple but didn't really talk. Just asked where they were from.

My MIL makes it, you put it in a big barrel with water I believe and let mold build on, then you take the mold off and let it get moldy again. I believe this goes on for 3 weeks. YUCK!!

Does anyone know if they serve the same sauerkraut at Biergarten as they do at Sommerfest ?

My husband and I loved the kraut at Sommerfest, but haven't made it to Biergarten yet.

It didn't taste like sauerkraut you eat from a jar/can. They definitely added beer or special flavoring to it.

It also didn't smell like typical sauerkraut...
