Please explain Xyron to me

Even though I've been scrapping for a couple of years, I am a scrapbook dummy. I have never been to a crop where I might have seen how to use alot of scrapping tools. The hardest tool I have is an eyelet punch.

This Xyron thing sounds like it could be very useful, but can someone tell me what it does, how it works, what kind of cost we're talking about and how much use to do you get out of it.

Xyron is a self-adhesive machine (non-electric, no heat involved). It comes in many different sizes from about about a 1 1/2" to ???. You put whatever you want (die cuts, etc) into the feeder/hopper area, turn the crank, your item rolls out the other end with an adhesive back, like a sticker. The refills can be a bit pricey (about $5.50 for my size), but you can find them on sale and use the coupons at Michaels and ACM. I bought my machine on clearance after Christmas at Walmart many years ago. It lingered unopened on my shelf until just this month. I decided to give it a try... WOW! Not sure how I ever lived without it. It is so much easier to use than glue on small things such as small die-cut letters and such.

I've found it easier to run the piece of cardstock that will become a diecut through the xyron first, THEN do the diecut. Works great for those extra skinny Sizzlit and Cuttlebug letters.

This is what I do when I am doing a title with a Sizzlit Alpha. The letters are small and it makes it easier when it comes time to peel it off!

I've found it easier to run the piece of cardstock that will become a diecut through the xyron first, THEN do the diecut. Works great for those extra skinny Sizzlit and Cuttlebug letters.

I did that and messed up several of my tiles. Now when I use it the paper gets stuck inside the die cut. I have to very carefully pull it out with tweezers.

I always wondered about that B&MB! I've seen them pre-stick the CS on DIY Scrapbooking, but I'm too cheap to do it that way though...so I never tried it. Now I'm glad I never tried it. I have several Sizzlit tiles that I have trouble with paper getting stuck as it is.

I have the little X and a 500. The X is too narrow for some things...like shaker boxes. I use one or the other of mine every time I scrap. I couldn't live without it! I did have some trouble in the beginning with excess adhesive getting where I didn't want it...and on some of my smallest letters the paper/CS would actually peel - but that was a usage problem. I now use my embossing tool to run around the edges of letters before peeling back the clear film & rarely have any trouble.

This way also works great for Quickutz alphabits and the skinnymini alphabits! Also some of the shapes for Quickutz!

Thanks for the tip -- I've had the same problem and I don't like the results that I get using that rubbery tipped thing (what it's really called is escaping me at the moment).

As for paper/adhesive getting stuck in the die cuts, I haven't experienced that problem - yet. Now watch, having admitted to it, I'm probably plagued by it.

I tend to run my paper through the xyron before punching alphas too. Some of the spots on dies have gotten sticky but not in the letter cutting area, just the flat area around it.

My biggest problem with my alphas is that I've used the small a from my Girls are Weird set so many times that the foam stopped popping out, and so now small a's get stuck and I have to dig them out.
