I am a little confused about the legendary, cotroversial refillable mug.
I have read about it, but still don't 'get it'!!

We are staying at All-Star Movies.
Questions:
-Can I buy one there, at ASMO?
-How much are they?
-How big are they?
-Do I buy one for each member of my family, or can we share with the kids? (not wanting to cheat the system, I was just wondering if kids drank free)
-What can you put in them, just soft-drinks?
-Am I allowed to take the mug with me to other resorts, waterparks, etc. are they good there? Or just good for your own resort food court?

If I do buy one, I take it down with me to Breakfast, then use it. Then I have to walk alll the way back to my room to leave it there, so then I couldn't just get on the bus, correct? (unless I want to carry this big mug with me everywhere until we eat dinner at the food court right?)

I would like the mug as a souveneir (if it is cute) but wouldn't like the hassle of it. I wish we could get a wristband or something showing we bought the mug, but they be able to just use a disposable drink cup free instead of always having to worry about getting the mug :confused3 Know what I mean?

Any other advice, input, comments welcome!
thanks!

Each resort has its own refillable mug. They were 11.99 last time we were there. They are only refillable at the resort you bought them at. Yes they can be a pain to carry if you don't have a big bag/stroller/backpack with you. I wake up earlier than my clan so I get my "coffee" and then go back to the room and wake everyone up. We use it a lot on days we hang at the pool.

Love the wristband idea. Too bad that is not how it works... oh size, I think the smaller (travel mug shape that fits in my car cup holder) is 12 oz and the bigger one is maybe 16oz (might be 14). Those are a guess and I pretty much stink at that sort of thing so someone please correct me if I am wrong.

It's not that cute but still a worthwile souvie. at something like $12 if you fill it 2x for drinks you would have paid for it puts the cost of the souvie to something like $6.

mug rules (not cut and pasted from anywhere/my own words):

This mug is for YOU and only YOU to use not share for THIS TRIP and only THIS TRIP, at THIS RESORT and only THIS RESORT (I dont know if you can fill it anywhere else in the resort besides the food court, I never had the need).

I bought the mug at both of our 2 stays because I wanted the souvie and why not. I probably filled it 4-6 times each.

I would eat breakfast by myself at the movies food court and get the milk from the fridge to take back to the kids as my CS credit drink, and fill the cup for myself.

2x when we ate at the food court for dinner we shared meals so I used this for the extra needed drink.

There are certain resorts that are "sister resorts" and therefore the refillable mugs from those resorts are refillable anywhere where refillable mugs are valid within the resort it was purchased at or its sister resorts:

- All-Star Sports, All-Star Movies, All-Star Music
- Port Orleans Riverside, Port Orleans French Quarter

Thanks for the answers so far.

What can go in the mugs, just soft drinks?

Soft drinks, coffee, hot chocolate. I'm pretty sure there is hot water available for tea as well, but I don't know about tea bags.

Creamers and sugar for coffee are also available at the drink stations.

The YC/BC are also sister resorts, and the mug is good at either location.

I have bought refillable mugs at BWV and WLV. I know Disney wants to make a profit, but I hate having to buy a refillable mug for each DVC location. Now I need to buy 3 more mugs. If anyone from DVC is reading this, can I suggest the travel size if you don't already offer this style for all DVC resorts. The wider refillable mugs are clumsy to pack.

At POR they also had iced tea, don't know if ASMo does. Lots of tea bags.

No juice or milk, which I found to be a drawback.

Yes, if you go have breakfast, then you either need to take the mug back to your room or carry it with you, which is a bit of a hassle. After breakfast, we would fill our mugs with a cold drink, put them in our frig in our room, so when we got back our cold drinks were ready. Now, that may not work well with carbonated beverages and ASMo does not automatically have a frig in the room.

Last, if you are on the dining plan, it may not be worth it.
