Please explain Gameboys

I have one word of warning about the Nintendo DS - Although it does play gameboy advance games, you can not use the multiplayer option for those games. There are many multiplayer DS games, and several more are coming out soon (including MarioKart DS and Animal Crossing:Wild World, which should both be great) but you have to have a Gameboy Advance or an SP if you want to play any of the older GBA games as multiplayer games.

For sure, go with the Gameboy Advance SP.... and with the Wal-Mart Early Bird special, you can not go wrong! My 12 year old son has the SP and the newer one, and prefers the SP.

OK, about the Nintendo DS not playing multi-player games for GBA...are these multi-player games where you plug two systems into each other w/a cable (which wouldn't matter because we'll only have one system whichever one we go with) or multi-player in that the kids take turns holding the game...like the old Coleco football game?

If I go with the Nintendo DS I'll probably wait til closer to her birthday at the end of February or even for next Christmas since this isn't something she's been asking for, just something I think she'll like. For $130 it needs to be something she's been dying to have! lol

It's the games that you use by hooking the systems together. The DS is wireless for multiplayer play - in fact you can even set it to tell you when you get near enough to someone else with the same game to play with them. It will also work using wifi so that you can play against people all over the world.

However, the GBA games that you could play on two GBAs against each other will not work as two player games. You can still play the single player parts, though.

If there are any GBA games that use two players on one unit, those would still work. (I can't think of any right off, though, except for a couple of the bonus games on Warioware.)

My son has a DS and loves it, but he also had to keep his GBA-SP, because he and his friends like to play Pokemon and that won't work as a multiplayer game on the DS. There will be new Pokemon games for DS released next year, though.
