I understand Hotwire and how it works, but Priceline I don't quite get. How do you know what price to even start at bidding, so that you don't overbid?

From what I've seen, and please tell me if I'm wrong, you've got a better clue as to what you might get with Hotwire as they show the amenities at the hotel. With Priceline, you're kinda winging it? Or am I missing something.

Have you looked at the websites http://www.biddingfortravel.com and http://www.betterbidding.com yet?? Those will give you a good idea about starting bids.

On priceline, you can get the hotel for cheaper usually than hotwire. But on hotwire you can pretty much figure out what the hotel is before you bid. So you pay a little more but "know" what you are getting. The only way you can get an idea about what hotel may come up on priceline is to see what other people have been getting for your dates.

Remember, with either of these you are not guaranteed a CERTAIN hotel, but a hotel class (like resort, or 3*, etc.) Plus, you pay up front and there are no refunds.

I have used hotwire before and have been very happy.

With Priceline you definately need to do a bit of studying of the biddingfortravel site. I have bid on Priceline several times and obtained rooms at DTD's Hilton and Wyndham in the $60/$70 range. I have also bid for 3* and won them at $30/$40 range. I have looked into bidding on Hotwire but have found in my research that the same hotels general aren't picked up as cheap as they would be on priceline. Sometimes the difference between the two is that priceline will usually always be $10 to $15 if not a bit more for the same hotel. However, if your looking for a specific hotel, your certainly more likely to be able to figure if it is being offered on Hotwire by the amenities offered.
