Please explain Deviation fee

I spoke to DCL about changing our flights. I've decided to fly in Friday night instead of Saturday morning.

I'd like to be sure we have a non-stop flight and I'd like to get on the Magic earlier than mid-afternoon.

The agent said I would have to pay an additional $50 deviation fee per person. We're a family of 4 and I think it will be easier and cheaper to book the flights myself.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

I believe if you as the DCL passenger want to have ANY SAY on which flights you'll be booked on DCL charges an additional $50 per person. If you'll just take whatever DCL deems appropriate, they don't charge the fee. That's how it was explained to me, so we always book our own air.

Lori is correct. We used DCL air the first time and paid the deviation fee to make sure we had a non-stop. Since then we have booked our own flights.

Good.

I thought BD would explain that the fee was if you were a deviant.

I can't affor that fee!

Thanks everyone for your prompt, informative (and funny) answers!

Guess I'd better book my flights!

Just one thing to keep in mind- if DCL books your air, they are responsible for seeing that you get on the ship. (In cases of late arriving flights or other glitches, they will make arrangements to hold the ship, rush you to the port, get you to the next port of call, etc...)

If you arrange your own transportation, DCL is not responsible for you until you check in with them, either at the MCO shuttle bus or at the port.

(We usually check the available flights and rates, and book our own air if there are any good deals and convenient flight times available at reservation time. If there aren't, we just put our flights in the hands of the cruise line.)
