please excuse my son...

my mother is a teacher and she got a note similar to that and we were big disney fans when i was gorwing up so she let them go sent him with no work and gave them all these disney tips and they had a great time.
i called my mom who is still a 1st grade teacher and she said that the teacher should be fine with that.

One thing that I don't think has been mentioned in this discussion is the fact that it being "okay" to miss school for a vacation realy depends on the child. I know for a fact that in some grades and with some children, missing a whole week could set them back quite a bit, don't you think?

Man, if I missed a week of my high schol Algebra class I would have been behind the whole semester! I know neigther of my parents would have been able to help me! I struggled in that subject... and unless a child is going to get tutoring from the teacher or a parent who is capable of teaching the missed material, then you DO run the risk of setting your child back more than you'd think!

But again, it depends on the grade level AND the individual student...

That letter is great! My thought is, if the school is going to give you a hard time about pulling your child out of school for an educational experience, or just a plain old fashioned vacation, they need to be told that there are other things that they need to be focusing their energy on. Life is short! If it saves me 1,000 dollars to take my DD out of school for 7 days in the second grade I will. Now when she is in high school, I might reconsider my options.
