First off, I am just a hard working Mom, with 2 DD's, addicited to everything WDW !!! Going this November for 8 magical days with the Dining Plan, which I LOVE !!
Now, please don't bite my head off, but I have to VENT a little......
I will truly admit "I AM TOTALLY JEALOUS & ENVIOUS OF HEARING ABOUT THOSE WITH THE FREE DINING PLAN"........Okay, there, I said it....whewwwww I feel better now.....
Our schedule did not allow us to travel when FREE offer was available, and it does kind of sort of frustrate me to read all the whoooo hoooos, and yippee for us "we got Free Dining" people.......
Congrats & Good for You Folks, But I am jealous!
We are going to have a terrific wonderful time, and I would (and we did) get the Dining Pakcage cause I think it is Great !
But when I think of getting all that for Free, and I am not, it gives me a little know in my tummy.
Okay, I am done...Thanks for Listening, and once again, to those of you Free-Bees, Good For You ! :worship: :tink: :butterfly

I hope you have a great time. Your post makes me feel bad about getting free dining. Not bad enough to turn it down, of course!

Technically though, it isn't "free". The folks that are getting the "free dining" are having to pay rack rates for the room. I'm guessing that if you were able to get a discount rate (package) with dining that it would be somewhat comparable.

Perhaps that will ease your jealousy some? :goodvibes

LOL, its ok.. I would be jealous too if I werent going! JK! We hadnt planned on going this yr since we went twice last yr but when the free dining came around and then some money came in I wasnt expecting it worked out perfectly! We booked our trip to be able to take advantage of the dining plan. I got it free last yr and each time I received my receipts I kept them and when I got home I tallied the up it was almost $600 worth of food for one adult, one junior and one child! I'll tell you what Im envious of..ppl who get to stay 10 days at a time, or ppl who get to go at Christmas or ppl who stay at the deluxes..LOL!

Thanks for listening :listen:
Reading your replies does help......
And Heck, If I had Free Dining......I'd be outside doing cartwheels !!!
And, Yes, we do have a really good package rate, so maybe it all pans-out.......yeah, right ! :hippie:

I'm happy about free dining because it let me stay at the Poly! I'm sure your trip will be great even if you had to pay for the DP- it's still a good deal anyway.

Last sept I went on a last minute trip to disney. It was WHILE FREE DINING was offered but we booked THE DAY AFTER THE OFFER ENDED!!! How's them apples?

Anyway, we had a great time and even PURCHASING the dining plan made it feel like we were eating FREE because we spent WAY more than the price of the plan on meals (well, would've spent more).... what a bargain!

I'm going to Niagara Falls next week and planning all of the details... the main thought i've been having? I sure wish they had the dining plan in niagara falls LOL LOL!!

PS just wanted to add...

*I* am jealous you're even GOING! The next scheduled trip is VERY iffy and *IF* we go in Feb/march next year it's going to be for ONE NIGHT:(

I totally get you! That was me last year during free dining! :teeth:

This year, because my DD13 will be going to school instead of being homeschooled, we planned on going in August. Then free dining was offered and since we were going anyway, we got it.

BUT, if it makes you feel any better, I HATE the thought of going in August. I like November in Florida(went last year Nov/Dec), NOT August!! We'll be sweatin' like big dogs, let me tell ya'!

Just think,.........I get free food and the chance to be absolutely drenched in my own sweat for 11 days in the parks looking for any available comfort, and you pay for dining but get the most gorgeous weather that, IMHO, is the best all year in Florida! :cloud9:

Yea, then there's that! I don't see another WDW trip in my future for a while. This is the first time there's no trip on the horizon in 6 years. So I'll be with the "wish we were going" group next year, free dining or not.

Oh, and CinRell...........your signature cracks me up. But it does have me worried a little bit. In about 2 or 3 years are we going to see......"ex notsodear HUSBAND"!! It's the natural progression, ya know........just kidding. :rotfl:

Well, I WAS going to ask you how August 31st looked, but............... :lmao: I think I will just show up at your house and say, "I'm with Ernesto. I'm Ernestine." :lmao:

Hey......does the tag fairy hang around here? :rotfl:

Just remember there's a reason why the DDP is free: heat, humidity, thunder storms, hurricanes, etc. Disney certainly isn't doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. It was actually a very clever way for them to keep the resorts full during that 6 week period where most people don't want to go. We are doing it this year for the first time as we've never tried the dining plan and didn't want to pay adult price for our young kids. I am hoping (praying!) the weather doesn't do us in as we're from the Pacific Northwest and anything over 70 or so feels like a heat wave!

So, although you may be a bit upset about not getting the plan for free...you will enjoy better weather, smaller crowds, and lower-priced rooms. All's well that ends well, right! :)

Last year, we traveled to WDW 3 days after the free dining ended. Our dates were also 3 days after the end of value season. It would have cost less in total for me to pay for the additional 3 days before our stay (plus our entire actual stay), then to pay only for the days we were there! Disney wouldn't go for it, though. We would've been considered a no-show check in, and we had no one local who could check in for us (my friends moved down a few months later!). Plus, even though we are AP holder's, Disney had just begun the AP "best rate" program, and our dates fell into that program's "black hole". So, that is my sob story. The bright side is that they offered the free dining again this year, and we are using our APs for this Sept (activated last Oct). So, our tickets and dining (except for breakfast, and the additional 1 day pass we had to buy everyone) are covered this year. We will have to pay rack rate for the room, so we gave up the opportunity to save about 166.50 with an AP room only discount. Therefore, the free dining is actually costing us 166.50 (est AP discount forgone) + 190 (est 1 day pass 2 A, 1C)= 356.50. This means we are paying 35.65 per day for food for our 10 day trip, for DH, DD3, and I (not including breakfast). I am definetly thankful this year! I hope all our plans go off without a hitch or a hurricane, though.....

I understand completely. I wish I could have free dining too, but I would much rather get my AAA discount and go in November. Yes, I have to pay for the dining plan, but I do get a discount, get to see all the Christmas decorations, attend MVMCP, and (hopefully) the weather will be great.

We went last year for free dining and are going this year for free dining, hooray!

But, as others have stated it was SWELTERING early Sept last year, and I'm sure will be mid August this year, at least that will not be an issue for you and the kids.

I too (am not quite jealous, but) wish it was me too going to Disney during the Christmas season and experiencing that part of it, maybe in the future, we almost did one year as we rescheduled our original stay from the week of 9/11/01, but we ended up cancelling it altogether. I also feel the same way as stated above about people going on the Disney cruises (which I almost did as well) and going to DLP, Tokyo, and Disneyland (CA) too.

So see you're not in that boat alone (as in "we're all in the same boat" type of thing).
