And I did do a search first! Has anyone ever been denied use of their old mugs that they bought awhile back - before the disclaimer not to? Like has someone been called down in the food court for it? That would be kind of embarassing to be standing there with kids holding their mugs and the CM says "No".

There have been many discussions about reusing mugs. There have been several people that have seen CM's stop someone from using an old mug.

Just a warning to anyone wishing to post on this thread. Please just state your observations and not your opinions or this thread won't last very long.

Most posters have not been stopped when they refill old mugs, big gulp mugs and paper cups.

There have been some people who've been stopped. If that would embarrass you spend the money for new mugs.

Disney has signs and is now putting the notice on the mugs. It would make sense for them to enforce the rules.

Excellent disclaimer, safety mom. I have observed people filling up current mugs, old mugs, plastic cups, water bottles and just about anything else you can think of to hold pop. I have never seen anybody stopped. No opinion, just the facts.

I've never done it, but I've never seen anyone "caught" doing it either. The only CM's I see in the food court are the food service, cashiers, and custodians. I've never seen refillable mug police. If Disney doesn't want people to do this, then they should do something about it. There's nothing to stop someone sitting at a table with mugs, then when the rest of the group shows up using them at the soda machine. The CM's have no way of knowing if you bought the mugs last year or yesterday.

I'm not advocating this either. I like to stay at a different resort and get a different mug. It seems like the whole thing operates on the honor system, and... well I think we all know how that turns out.

Ditto. Last year I observed Coffee mugs, paper mugs, and chic-fil-a mugs being refilled at POFQ. I also saw abuse at CBR.

I did NOT see the abuse, however, at the Contemporary, or at WL (or perhaps I did not pay attention). Does it depend on the resort?

Agree with the above.
This has been a question I have always wondered too.
We KNOW what people here think. ;) I always doubted Disney ever enforced it. But it would be interesting to hear if it has ever actually been enforced or just an Urban Legend. :rotfl: Maybe someone should contact MythBusters. :teeth:

I asked the manager at the GF. He said you can use the mug for the entire year printed on the mug. Its not good forever, and its also not limited to your one trip. You have unlimited use till the end of the year printed on the mug.

THANKS!

I'm surprised by all the reports of abuse, too...but maybe I just wasn't paying attention. However, I've never noticed anything unusual at the refill stations, except for a pair of Dixie Landings mugs at POR (which I hear where bought when refills were supposed to be limitless for all trips...) and a stray alternative resort mug once in a great while, which I just suspected as being used by someone doing a split stay (to give the benefit of the doubt). I haven't seen bread bags or anything like that. I nearly always stay at deluxe resorts, but I doubt that has anything to do with it. :confused3

Like most, I do not look for mug abuse, nor really care.
They only fourt court observation I really recall was a few years ago at ASMu. We had a leisurely breakfast in the food court, and it was over a busy Columbus Day weekend.
Like others have posted, I think I saw anything and everything being filled, from bottles to plain mugs.
The food court was busy and was amazing what guests used as refillable mugs.

The time that REALLY stands out the most for me was some young gal entering the exit at Ice Station Cool and filling her refillable resort mug! :earseek: :sad2:
Maybe as punishment ;) they should have made her fill it up with the Beverly and drink every drop! :rotfl:

I just got home today from a week at POP and saw MANY people using non POP mugs. Everytime I filled my mug (yes, it was a brand new red POP mug) I saw at least two or three people filling their All Stars/Blizzard Beach/Walmart water bottles with drinks. I never saw anyone get spoken to and often there were employees cleaning the drink area.

Ya know...I wasn't going to post, but what the heck.

I'm not personally going to sweat or worry about who is getting over on ol' Mr. Disney and walking away with 3 cents worth of soda.

I will say this though.....eveybody has got to put their head on the pillow at night. If you can acquire a product or service without paying when you should have, and still lay your head on the pillow feeling good about yourself, I suspect you have bigger issues than the 3 cents of Coke you got away with that day ! :sad2:

I'll buy my mug,
I'll drink my soda,
I'll enjoy all tht is Disney,
and sleep well at night.

Well said. People spend $3000 plus for a trip to WDW and won't fork over 15 bucks (or whatever) for a mug? Embarrassing...
My unenlightened DH asked if we'd be bringing our old mugs (from 2001!) with us to this trip. I said we will not, and this year I'm even buying a mug for each of us, instead of making the kids share. :drinking1

Well said zdad. I usually just try to mind my own business and make sure I am doing the right thing. As long as it is not hurting me, I don't care what other people do. :flower:

I just got home from 9 days at WDW staying at ASMo and I never purchased a mug until 5 days into the trip. We had stopped at the grocery store and purchased soda and water and I didn't see any sense in a mug since we were at the park 12 hours a day and the beverage would have been warm within an hour.

So after we did our major park visiting and decided to hang at the hotel a little more during the day and night, I purchased a mug. As soon as I bought it and went back to the table I said to my hubby-----"it's funny more people don't steal these mugs since you could pick one up and tell the clerk it was a refill mug"........................the next morning ALL the mugs had yellow clips on them that HAD to be taken off by the clerks. So the thoughts of people stealing them can not happen now---unless they want to wrestle with a knife to cut the plastic clip off before checking out.

I saw numerous people filling with any type of mugs, cups they had. I also saw more families with individual cups for each person rather than sharing. Even for children less than 2 years of age.

I wouldn't try it because I'm pretty sure that they say it's good for one visit always and I try to follow rules, but you know, you'd think they'd change the appearance of them once in awhile if they really cared. Otherwise, how can they easily enforce it.

We will be purchasing 5 new mugs this year for the family. I have "stash" that I have been saving for this particular buy. (with other "stashes" for other fun things to spend on at WDW).

I can't speak for anyone else, but if I reused previous mugs, I would feel guilty the entire trip. :rolleyes1 . They would know I was doing something wrong just by the look on my face! It's called integrity!

Uh...if that had read water bottle that would have been my DD a few years ago. She was thirsty, and figured "What the heck?" She's her Daddy's girl. Now we just tell her to take the family jug in-but be surre to get some "snow" to keep it cold! :rotfl:

Observations: People using old mugs at WL in January. People using old mugs at CSR (you know, handed them to the CM) a few years back. I've seen lots of different mugs used in the food courts. I've seen CMs cleaning up the drink stations (honest! on rare occasions!) Never seen or personally heard of anyone being denied.
