I will be going to WDW on 5/10 to 5/15 with my mom (in her active 60s) and son (2.5 year old). I've been reading the boards diligently. It is a great help. Here is what we plan to do

5/10 arrive at noon. PM: EPCOT world showcase and Illumination
5/11 MGM. take a nap break. booked fantasmic package at H&V at 7pm
5/12 am MK. focus on Fantasyland. then take a nap.
pm Epcot (left over from 5/10)
5/13 Universal studio. (DS is a barney fan)
5/14 am AK. then take a nap
pm MK, Mickey toon town & wishes
5/15 am MK, frontierland & adventureland.
pm fly back.

Please advise if it's doable. Also, what's the exit strategy after the illumination, wishes, etc? We are staying offsite in LBV area. Welcome any suggestions.

Firstly have you checked which days are busy and to be avoided on something like touringplan.com?

Secondly, I wouldn't just go into MK and do Fantasyland for the morning then come out for a nap. I would just stay in there for the full day and get as many rides done as possible.

Then on AK day go and do some more at Epcot. You really do need full days at each park at the very least.

I cannot understand why you have put napping in as part of your itinerary. When we go we leave the hotel for breakfast then spend all day out and about and only return late at night for sleep. To us going to Orlando is such a magical time the thought of spending valuable time napping is such a waste. If you are thinking of your son, it is possible to rent strollers and he could have a nap in one of these, which would save time. Going from park to hotel to park takes up a lot of time.

When we have seen the fireworks at MK we have stood in the main road, then there is a mad rush to get the monorail/boat back to the car park which isn't much fun. It my travel guide (A Brits Guide to Orlando) it suggests going for a coffee/ice cream to let the crowds die down first before leaving the park.

Again at Epcot it is very crowded after the fireworks. People here have suggested just finding a quiet bench for a while and letting the rush go by before you join it.

Why not do MK the whole day on 5/12, AK the whole day 5/14, and on 5/15 finish up at Epcot? Then you won't have to buy a park hopper ticket.

I've been trying to get a later Fantasmic Dinner for my 5/16 date. They haven't opened up more yet. That was great you got 7PM! I would love to have 7!

Your plan should work just fine! I do worry about the break time for naps since you are staying offsite but do understand the need having a child that young myself. Plus to me getting an afternoon nap all week is MY vacation as well.

Thanks for all the wonderful tips and suggestions. I will keep my mind open regarding the nap. The main reason for nap is that the afternoon heat and my son's energy level (don't want to miss the evening activities due to possible meltdown). I will try the idea of napping in a stroller.

marriedmarylander, i just got my FDP today, exactly 30 days in advance. They DO have later times open up 30 days ahead. Good luck on getting yours on the 16th.

I would really try to look for a possible discount on site. I've stayed off site and don't feel I've lost magic. However, w/ a little one, the traveling back and forth is going to get old after awhile. You will parking lot trams to deal w/ not to mention it's a lot of transferring. If you can stay onsite-- getting back to your room won't be as time consuming or difficult.

That said, if you are offsite. You may want to try and figure out how to possibly arrive alittle later in the morning (at lunch time) and stay later. I would try to rework it alittle so that you aren't leaving everyday. The heat in the summer is very hot-- so just a thought.
