Finally, I am going to say I am glad if OP is being honest and not doing what was originally proposed.

Well, considering that I'll openly admit that I'd still rather see the money go to the teachers, yes, I'm being honest that it's being spent elsewhere. I do understand that the school has pressing needs that supercede teacher bonuses right now so I have no room to complain.

The money is going to be split 3 ways for 3 different uses. I won't say what they are here for fear of more people saying that it's wrong to buy something for the toddlers when the preschoolers won't get to use it or something

My 6 year old faithfully cuts out every box top that comes in the house. She does it because she wants to win the contest at school. I would be aghast if I heard the rumor that the whole reason they cut out the boxtops is so the teacher's can get some extra pocket money. I get that teachers are underpaid, but maybe a program that benefits more than those 4 people since the box top program is (often) the effort of the whole school.

I think that fewer and fewer teachers are paid low salaries these days. I am a teacher in a public high school and I am just in the middle of my fifth year of teaching (though I taught adult ed and some community college before that). I keep telling my boss that I would do my job for half the money. I feel I am vastly overpaid for what I do. That is why I stay late every day and work hard to create an engaging curriculum.

I do cash those big checks...partially because I am a single parent and because I'm no dummy! My point is, many teachers will give you the "aw shucks" routine and tell you they make very little, when they might do quite well in reality. Keep in mind that whatever we are paid, for most of us it is for a 36-week year.

Great for you, but there are many of us who are not paid well because we are not unionized and don't have tenure. And most of us work more than 36 weeks.

I need to move to New Hampshire because that is far from the case here.
And believe me, I don't have an "awe shucks" routine. In this economy, I am happy to have a job, and I am blessed to have a job I love. Every teacher I know is far from overpaid. The only thing they have too much of is stress And, almost all of us stay at work late and work hard planning. I am jealous of your pay. Good for you!

OP - your heart was in the right place But, I would have a hard time accepting money earned from school Boxtop collection. I think the right place for those dollars is something the students benefit from on a regular basis. Either way, you did something great for your child's school. I could really use a parent like you on the PTA at my school.

This is all well and good for you, but I have 15 years of non-public school teaching, 2 masters degrees, 3 permanent teaching certificates, and my CAS and I can guarantee you that I make 1/2 or less than what you make. I stay because my school is like a family and I love what I do, but please know you are not talking in general about teacher's salaries.

I understand exactly what the OP is saying and what she was thinking about. Please know OP that your thoughts and consideration are by no means lost on me! I think you are wonderful for putting the needs of your teachers first! This doesn't always happen!

Whatever they are going to use the money for is no business of ours....Congratulations on the big win for your school! I know our school would be thrilled to have something like that happen.

Congrats on the win. I myself am a Boxtops coordinator for my DS's school. Our "PTO" decides where the money goes in the school and how we distribute it, not the board. We can do whatever we feel we need to with the money. Current;y it has not been decided what the majority is going for but there are lots of suggestions. Each of our non-fundraiser fundraisers goes to a specific area at school and Boxtops have not been designated yet but I am hoping to get it to fund a 4th grade field trip to Boston. it does not benefit the majority of students immediately but will benefit everyone as they go through the 4th grade.

Guess I need to move, since I work for 42 weeks per year, come in early and stay late, but I am not vastly over compensated. I love what I do and have been doing it for many years, but really NH must be a great state to work in!
