Please clarify/confirm for me - future trips/points

If I make a reservation in the future - in particular, next April at my home resort - and I end up cancelling or changing the reservation, do those points just go back to the pool? I am done with my points for the current use year and my new points come in August, so I would be borrowing to make a reservation now.

I just want to make sure before I screw things up.

If you borrow to make a reservation the points are permanently moved to the use year in which the trip takes place. They would not be returned to the original use year.

ETA: If your use year begins in August and your trip is not until April then you are not borrowing you are simply booking in the future with your August 21 UY points so if you cancel they would be returned to the August 21 UY pool.

Everything goes by the points that will be there when you travel and not when you call,

Since April 2022 is in your Aug 2021 UY, you can use banked 2020, 2021 and borrowed 2022 to book it, no matter when you call,

If you cancel more than 31 days ahead of check in, all points are returned to your account in the same status as they were used in the reservation.

So, if you did borrow Aug 2022 points for that April trip, they would be stuck in your 2021 UY and expire July 31st, 2022

Thanks to both of you. Since these would be my upcoming Aug 2021 use year, I see I have no issues as the trip falls in that use year.
