Please check my math here! Transfer 2011 points, use in 2012?

Hi -

I am working out a transfer with another DVC member and just want to make sure what we are doing is going to work.

I have 125 points available for my 2012 use year. 25 were banked from 2011, and 100 are allotted in my 2012 year.
I plan to borrow all 100 of my 2013UYpoints for a vacation in 2012. This gives me a total of 225 that are my own points.
To bump up my reservation by one day, I'm going to arrange a transfer from another DVC member who shares my home resort. She will give me 28 of her 2011 UY points.
Apparently I have to bank her 2011 points into 2012.
This will give me:
my 25 banked 2011 points
her 28 banked 2011 points
my 100 UY2012 points
my 100 UY2013 points.

Am I missing anything here? Will this work! Just looking for some validation.

just to clarify, when is your UY month?

(i'm hoping feb because otherwise a feb 2012 trip would be in your 2011 UY.)

Um... my UY resets every December.
i think this effectively puts me a year ahead of where I always think I am. I can't log onto DVC right now to verify, but this is what it said when I was there last:

Points banked from 2010-2011 into Dec 2011-Dec 2012: 25
Points available to use Dec 2011-Dec 2012: 100
Points available to borrow from Dec 2012-Dec 2013: 100

I can use all 225 these right now to book a Feb 2012 vaca, right?

i think this effectively puts me a year ahead of where I always think I am. I can't log onto DVC right now to verify, but this is what it said when I was there last:

Points banked from 2010-2011 into Dec 2011-Dec 2012: 25
Points available to use Dec 2011-Dec 2012: 100
Points available to borrow from Dec 2012-Dec 2013: 100

I can use all 225 these right now to book a Feb 2012 vaca, right?

December Use Years tend to be a bit confusing. You are still in your 2010 Use Year now.

A trip in February, 2012 will fall in your December 2011 Use Year so you can use the 25 points banked from your 2010 UY, all 100 from your 2011 and borrow up to 100 from your 2012 Use Year for a reservation at that time ... and reservations beginning February 10, 2012 or earlier may already be reserved at your Home Resort.

A transfer of 2011 points from another member would need to be banked to use them in February, 2012 only if they are February, 2001 points. Later months would NOT need to be banked since they would still be in their 2011 Use Year for a February trip.

Yes, if you take that last 100 points and borrow them. By the way, your use year runs December - November each year (not December like you have posted).

Oh my gosh, I really think I understood this better before I thought too much about it! My mom has said that we ought to get the use month moved to January so that it is less confusing. Somehow knowing that the points for the year come in January and you have that entire calendar year to use them makes more sense. I can see why Disney staggers them month by month though. And I think a December use year might be the most confusing of all!

(there's not actually a jan UY, though - but you'll get the hang of december over time. you understand how to use it already - it's just hard to remember that most of the time your use year will be one year behind the actual date of your stay...)

Aside from Charles' comment that there isn't any January use year (didn't realize that), you can't change use year anyway. I'm sure eventually it will become second nature to you - I do think December makes it harder.
