Hi all,

Not new to Dis, but new to the DLR forum. Planning a trip at the end of July/beginning August for the first time since I was 4 years old. Love the support from this group.

Confession: at first I was looking at this as a consolation destination. I "had" to go to CA this summer and thought it would be "tolerable" if I can make a fly by to DLR for a day or two- though it won't be as good as WDW. :rolleyes1

I know, I know... sorry! In my defense, we lived in Orlando for a couple of years, and have vacationed there since moving- so I know and love WDW. The smaller size and "quaintness" sounded like DLR would be a disappointment to me.

BUT... (thanks for bearing with me to this point...) I think I may have grossly underestimated DLR. The more I read, the more I research (I am a diehard planner) the more I am intrigued about this trip! :cheer2:

My question to you--- what do you think DLR does better than WDW? I'm coming from TX so either location is about the same distance for me. I'm just wondering if I will soon be begging to go to DLR over WDW! :thumbsup2

Ok. Here goes:

  • The weather - Disneyland will have much nicer summer weather than WDW - less humid and cooler
  • Compactness - Everything is much closer together, once there, you can walk everywhere - no shuttles needed to park hop or go to DTD
  • Some things are better - Pirates is better, as is Small World, some say Space Mountain is better, too. Some also say Splash is better at WDW
  • Some things will be new to you - Indy, the Matterhorn, perhaps Carsland (depending on when you are going), Aladdin, and a bunch of kiddie rides (Storybookland boats, Casey Jr, Monsters Inc, etc) you won't find at WDW

Like many people here, I enjoy both WDW and Disneyland and simply go to DL more often because it's so much closer to me (and boy have I grown to love staying withing walking distance). Go into it thinking that it is another Disney park, but don't think of it as the tiny MK. CA is its own entity; hopefully you'll be seeing it after the construction walls come down on June 15.

I am also planning my first trip to Disneyland this November! I have been to WDW over 40 times and I cannot wait to see the original! We are staying at the Disneyland Resort Hotel and are super excited about Trader Sam's and Tangaroa Terrace (my dog is named Tanga!)...

Not a huge Cars fan but I am impressed by the pictures I have seen of the area. I am expecting DCA to be a disappointment (except for a few gems like Little Mermaid)...but Disneyland itself should be amazing!

Instead of bragging about DLR can I just dump on WDW because that would be so easy!

Def don't think of DCA as a disappointment. Save judgement until you go. Me an my mom were huge DCA fans when we went on our first visit. Even boarded up we found it to be awesome I think my mom preferred it to Disneyland but she will never admit to it lol I enjoyed DCA more than DHS ad even AK just because there is so much to do there.

I actually really like CA - some of our favorite rides (TSMM, CS, GRR. ToT, LM, and Soarin') are over there, as is the Aladdin show (which is quite good). Bug's Land is so cute (though the rides are really kid-oriented) and I expect Carsland to be some nice eye candy as well. Quite frankly, it's been a mess with the construction, but I'm thinking it will be really nice once BVS opens. You may like it a lot more than you think!

What does Disneyland do better than WDW?

Walt Disney. Disneyland is the only park in the world with Walt's personal touch. And it's all over the place.

Don't get me wrong as I love Walt Disney World, but I always miss Disneyland when I'm there. I don't know if I'll ever ride Pirates of the Carribean at the MK again. I always wonder what happened to the first half of the ride.

I have never been to WDW so I can't compare the rides BUT I do love the sun with no moisture :rotfl:

I live in the Pacific Northwest so am used to rain 9 months of the year. I really enjoy seeing the sun and not having moisture (rain or humidity).

Florida doesn't have Hollywood, the Pacific ocean or pacific beaches. There is also the wine country that is really fun to visit.

lets see walts original park is the best.

poc at WDW doesnt compare
the railroad is special
walts apartment is here
i know i'll get alot of grief but WDW is about as themed as your local mall, it is hot and sticky and just doesn't have the charm of DL.
there are quite a few attractions and rides that WDW doesn't have and vice versa

DL still has main st cinema, it is the home of the original and imho the best
fantasmic

I haven't been to WDW since 2000 but I'm completely in love with DLR! Everywhere you look there is magic. I love the fast rides, but the classic dark rides that just take you through a familiar and much loved story is timeless. I love that you can walk from park to park without difficulty. I'm so excited to go back in September, I can hardly stand it!

I haven't been to WDW so my opinion will be super biased LOL

I don't know what they do better..but I know that this is one of my favorite places to be EVER. It's so nice to casually stroll around and LOOK. The details are amazing. If you're a planner you've come to the right place. This community board has so many pics of DLR and pics of things you might miss. Take your time to really see the differences because I'd love to hear how you feel when you get back :)

Disneyland is my happy place.
