Please allow me to introduce my students....

But time for the serious questions.

If I wanted to go on the coolest ride in WDW... Where would I start? ...

Oh... and my name is Jordan. I'm in the WDW class. :grouphug: (That's our class, we're great at teamwork.

Hi Jordan, my son (teenager) and I are both adrenaline junkies-- and for that we love "Rock N Rollercoaster" at Disney Hollywood Studios - he's a big fan of Tower of Terror also....

At Epcot - we love Test Track - fun, along with neat details while you wait in line.

Magic Kingdom - big fans of Space Mountain and Splash Mountain -- and you've got Expedition Everest (coaster) over at Animal Kingdom

One of the cool things about Disney is there's something for everyone. It's not like going to a smaller theme park like say Six Flags....where you can do it in a day...Disney is massive, many parks, many themes, something for everyone...it's huge.

Not sure if these are the "coolest" rides, but they'll get you pumped and you won't feel like it's "just a kid's place"...Disney is about so much more than the rides though...the themes, the details...it's EVERYWHERE...details on every mancover, ever fence post, every window...it's how nothing is overlooked, and is not like when you go to a smaller theme park and run from ride to ride....at Disney, even the walk from place to place is pretty darn amazing - because there's so much to see, and so much to take in...

oh yeah, and there's waterparks, golf, downtown disney, disneyquest, movie theater, tons of resorts...and the list goes on - it's huge.

Okay, so I finally was allowed access to this thread. ( I think Dave was just trying to be mean and keep me from talking to everyone ha.. )

Where's the best place to eat at EPCOT, seeing as it has about 4956 different eateries and venues.

And this being a college class, is it totally unheard of to have a place where college aged kids like to go to? Not saying that the "its a small world" ride isn't thrilling (since I plan on going on it about 9 times ) , but just wondering if older students like a certain park better or something along those lines.

Welcome, Jordan!!

Coolest ride would probably be Tower of Terror or Rockin Roller Coaster. As for food at Epcot, Sunshine Season's in the Land is a good counter service place to eat, and I enjoy Chefs de France for a table service meal.
Hollywood Studios seems to be a bigger draw for college age people.

To all of the students: What are you most looking foward to do in this class? What are you hoping to take from it?

Besides the obvious perk of getting to go to wdw over spring break, I'm very interested in the backstage tours and learning about their customer service model. I lifeguard at a waterpark during the summer, so I'm hoping I will be able to bring some ideas back to work with me.

i would have to vote Tower of Terror- it is one of my faves, the attention to detail is so great and the ride itself is a total thrill and different everytime. I never get tired of it.

for Epcot eating:
fast food- voting wtih everyone else- the foodcourt at the Land Pavilion has a nice selection and healthy choices beyond the standard burger/fries.

for sit down- it's cliche, but Le Cellier is a favorite, as well as Chefs De France. I need to try more. I actually enjoyed Coral Reef for lunch too- great atmosphere and food wasn't bad either!

for college kids liking a certain park......well other than sentimental value, Fantasyland and Mickey's toon town are out. :rotfl: I would say maybe Epcot. There is the opp to eat and drink around the world. of course the drinking part is a big hit with college aged students. Used to be on a certain week night at PI, you could find all the college program students out partying at PI (there was a special CM night to get in free i think), but that is no longer. Mannequins and Adventurers club were always fun. Since PI is really no longer, some might enjoy Citywalk at Universal, but that isn't the 'world'.

I am also a University student, however I don't think students 'hang' much at Disney, its a family place which tries to find something for everyone. There are some pretty cool rides, Tower of Terror and Rock'n'Roller Coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios and Mission Space (for those who like seeing their lunch again) at Epcot. However other theme parks near by such as Universal or Bush Gardens tend to cater to those who prefer the thrill rides over ambience (not a dig by any means, they just know their target audiences). Talking to people my age, they seem much more thrilled by the idea of going upside down 40 times and getting the adrenaline rush than seeing shows and attractions, where as I get my adrenaline pumping by the monorail! :rotfl:

To be honest, I'd really like to learn a lot of the kinda dark past of Disney World. Which will probably be hard, but I think it would be nice to know some of the truths about the history - surely it can't all be magical dreams and fairy dust.

Disney is by no means fairy dust, it has had loads of issues from failing films, potential hostile take over bids, warring management. I am currently reading Disney War, which isn't all sunshine! I also read an autiobiography of Walt that wasn't 100% flattering. However discussing it on Disney die-hard fan boards isn't always in your best interests! Some people are very protective, which is fine, but can often lead to a difficult debate. :hippie:

Hello Jordan,

It looks like people covered the cool rides in their replys.

Depending on the older student I think they will
like Epcot or Disney Studios.

There are aloy of places to eat in Epcot. That is one of the best things about the park. I like to eat at the counter service in Morocco, but I love Moroccan food. What kind of food do you like? Lets say you like Chinese and Mexican. Look up the menues on line (wdwinfo.com) and then check out peoples reviews. Heck, almost anything you are thinking of eating has had a picture of it posted by someone!

I know...I was being facetious.

Did you realize that the word facetious has all the vowels in alphabetical order?
(except y, but then again y is only a vowle sometimes, therefore only a part time vowle and does not qualify to be in the word)

Is there any other word that you know of that can make this claim to fame?

Dave,

How many students are in the class? I read Jeff was MIA. I just want to make sure I say hello to them all!

This youtube vid shows the original EPCOT plan. While not necessarily "dark" it does show how Walt communicated his ideas to the public via the weekly television show. The current EPCOT is much different than the original plan. Give it a :surfweb:

8 - we're just missing Jeff....he's Jordan's brother...so you can bug him too. ;)

Hi everyone! hope your enjoying the boards. :thumbsup2

Im pretty jealous over here that you get to take a class about disney. I havent read through the entire thread yet, but i thought id chime in on a few things i saw earlier.

Places to "hang" at WDW for our age group...While I was in the college program we had a ton of experience doing this, and while everyone loves to go on all the classic disney rides, there were several places we always flocked to. Tower of terror, rockin roller coaster, mission space, space mountain, and everest are the "cool" rides for us. EPCOT is one of the best places too if you can catch off kilter, or british invasion. My favorite restaurant there is le cellier. And dont forget that as far as nightlife types of things go, house of blues is one of your only options, but very fun.

 amazing!

Hiya everyone and I hope you are all enjoying the DIS!! :goodvibes I can't believe that you all get to take a college class about WDW. I wish we had that at my school!

My favorite resorts are the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian. My favorite rides are Pirates of the Caribbean, Splash Mountain, and Soarin'!

I look forward to getting to know all of you! :)

Hey Jord, I read this today and Courtney started her own blog and it kinda touches on what you are getting at. It wont let me post the URL on here but ask her about it. it's really interesting and prob what you want to hear. :yay:

To all of the students: What are you most looking foward to do in this class? What are you hoping to take from it?

I"m most excited about learning about aspects that one might not notice at first sight, like the garbage cans being perfectly spaced 27 feet apart, or the peepholes in the doors for the parents, as well as the kids. This will probably be the last time I visit Disney until I am taking my own kids there and I'd really like it to be an amazing experience.

I think you need 10 posts in order to post a url or an image.

This was the view point of the students I went with. They wanted to enjoy it as a 'kid' without having their own in tow.

Hello all!

I'm another one of the students in the Communication Around the World Class. I am not nearly as familiar with WDW like many of you are, but I am interested in learning more about it. I went once two years ago over New Year's with our high school marching band and we got to march through one of the parks (Magic Kingdom I believe). Anyway, I'm hoping to learn a lot from everyone so I know what I'm doing when our class actually visits WDW. Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

Jeff
