Pleasantly surprised by a new (to you) restaurant?

We tried Rose and Crown this past trip and loved it! I don't know why we never had, it just never seemed that interesting to us. But we had a really lovely lunch there and I think we may become regulars! ;)

Has anyone else tried a new (to them) place and found themselves pleasantly surprised?

Yes, my daughter and I were on a Spring Break trip back in 2006 and decided to try to eat in Epcot but could only get into Marrakesh. Now I have NEVER wanted to eat here, but I figured why not. The meal was wonderful, the service great and the entertainment was fun. I would eat here again. :thumbsup2

Boma, for breakfast, did it for me. This was back in 2005 and before I started reading the DIS. I loved it and now I am taking my DH there for breakfast in September! YUM!

This is good to read. We are going next week and have reservations at Rose and Crown. For whatever reason, it always seemed to get scratched from our dining list.

We ate at Raglan Road 2 weeks ago & were pleasantly surprised. The food & service were great. We plan to go back in February.

We tried the Concourse Steakhouse for the 1st time last trip, and it ended up being our favorite meal of our 11 night trip!:thumbsup2

I had read mostly mediocre reviews of Cape May Cafe, so we never went there until last week, and let me tell you, we have been missing out! GREAT food, and DW LOVES the mussels & clams. I think Cape May has become our latest must-do.

:thumbsup2

We ate dinner at the Garden Grill for the first time last trip (early March). It was spectacular! Food, service, atmosphere, character interaction...all A+'s. We were SO glad we tried it despite reading negative reviews right before our trip. :)

We also tried Boma for the first time last trip. Breakfast buffet was very good and the atmosphere is great! We'd love to go back there!

Big River Grill, Kona & Concourse Steakhouse. All new to us this trip.

Boma and Kona for dinner, they were both excellent! Boma particularly!

We tried Tony's (lunch) and it was "ok" but probably would not go back.

Loved the Sci-fi for the atmosphere, but food (lunch) is just ok.

I don't even know what this is. Tell me about it if you get the chance!

Hi Ann:___
It's listed as being at Pleasure Island but it's not actually inside Pleasure Island so there's no admission fee. They have entertainment after 9 but we were out of there by 7 & on our way back to the Magic Kingdom so I can't comment on that.

It's an Irish Pub/Restaurant. We were 3 adults & 1 child. I had a smoked salmon appetizer that was huge & delicious. The others had steak salad, he raved about it, & scallops ( I think). There's no kid's appetizers. I had sauteed lemon sole, again delicious, & the others all had fish & chips..ditto. Even the chips were especially good. I tasted the fried fish & it was, once again, delicious. The desserts were bread & butter pudding & I wish I had room to finish it. It was unbelievable. It's served hot with 2 pitchers of sauces. The server told me to put a hole in the center & pour the sauces on & let them soak in. OMG! First let me say that I don't even want to know how much butter is in that bread & butter pudding, but believe me, Paula Dean would be proud :rotfl: one sauce is like melted almond rocha butter crunch candy, & the other is a vanilla sauce..unbelievable. I could have skipped my entree for this. The others raved about their desserts too, chocolate cake with an orange marmalde in the center, a chocolate decadent dessert that my nephew devoured & the other adult ate the child's ice cream with chocolate sauce that he declared was as good as Ghiardelli's.

Sorry to go on & on but just thinking about it is making me want that salmon appetizer & cup of tea right now.

They have a large menu & it's listed on allears.

we ate at Grand Floridian Cafe for dinner and it was one of the best meals our whole trip. The servers were nice, the food was excellent and the desserts were amazing!!!

I agree we are big Cape May lovers! We will be there next Saturday night....woo hoo!! Can't wait!!!:goodvibes

On our fall trip we tried and loved 1900 Park Fare and Liberty Tree Tavern.... after MANY trips to WDW, I'd never tried either :confused3 We loved them both!!!

We also tried Akershus for dinner and suffice to say we won't return:eek:

We were inspired to try new restaurants again for our upcoming trip since DH is a creature of habit and we tended to always stick to the same ones.... this time though for the first time we'll be eating at:
LeCellier
Kona
Boma
Chef Mickey's (Haven't eaten here since it was at DTD!!! :rotfl: )
Cinderella's Royal Table for breakfast :goodvibes
Crystal Palace

YES-believe it or not-those are all NEW places for us!!!!:goodvibes :rotfl: :rotfl:

Can't wait!!!!

I just returned from my trip tonight and probably the restaurant that I was most surprised by was Mama Melrose. I had heard some very mixed reviews of it but I ate there on Thursday and the flatbread chicken pizza that I had was excellent.

Other restaurants that I tried for the 1st time and were excellent (but I expected them to be excellent) were:
- Spoodles
- Jiko (probably my best meal of the trip)
- Raglan Road

Two big surprises for us have been:

SPOODLES - loved the appys and the pitcher of sangria!
BOATWRIGHTS - that stuffed french toast was heavenly!

We will be back!

Shhhhhh!!!! I was hoping nobody discovered this treasure! ;) We like popping in here without an ADR!!

It's become the first thing we do when we arrive at the Polynesian, we walk over to the Grand Floridian for lunch!
