I was sitting and reading the current DISNEY FILES magazine. I have not been very excited about Aulani. I just figured maybe someday we would visit. Then while looking through the magazine at an overhead picture, I noticed it is exactly across the street from a golf course :cool1::yay::woohoo:!!! I also noticed that there is another resort right next door that will offer alternative food options from the normal disney fare. Hello Hawaii!!!

AND, as stated in the the latest issue of USA Hockey magazine, there is a brand new state-of-the-art inline hockey facility.

In less than 5 minutes from KIHA you can be enjoying the sun and sand and magnificent beaches of Ko' Olina Resort where the brand new Disney Resort is located.

What make you think the resort next door will have alternative food options from the normal Disney fare? :lmao: It's another timeshare, another over-priced food option I bet.:lmao:

Speaking of nearby dining options, Ko'Olina has a Roy's! Start saving your American Express Rewards points for Roy's Gift Certs. Pricey but WONDERFUL. And what is a visit to Waikiki w/out eating at Duke's?

Hmm ... maybe we ought to visit our nearby Roy's and Jake's (related to Duke's) more often? Nah, it is more fun visiting the ones on Oahu. ;)

Or a Hilton or Marriott with several bars and restraunts.

DW aned I with friends are staying at the Marriott Ko'Olina Resort next to Disney's Aulani site at the end of June. We plan on eating at a few of the overpriced eateries while there. Roy's is certainly on the list, but we are not familiar with Duke's. Would Duke's be a good place for a large family gathering to talk and get reaquainted, or is the entertainment and atmosphere the focus?

Dukes is the postcard place on the beach. Jimmy Buffett even has a song about it. Great breakfast buffett. Hawaiian music at night. just thinking about Duke's makes me misty. Google them for a view of their OAHU restaurant.

There is much future construction plans for the ko olina area that will bring new restaurants. where disney goes, sprawl follows

We visited Ko Olina a few years ago and the golf course that weekend was being used by the LPGA so I think it must be a pretty good one.

The structure right next to the Disney property is the JW Marriott and they had some very nice dining options. As someone else said there is a Roy's real close by (at the time the Marriott Beach club where we stayed offered a shuttle between the beach club, Roy's and the JW). The Marriott Beach Club is a nice walk along the paved beach path and has other options as well.

For more local fare there is a lot just a short drive away including a local place called Zippy's that my husband really liked.

Do you know if Dukes takes ressies for their Barefoot Bar, or just for the restaurant? The Barefoot Bar is one of our "must dos" when we go!

We've never been to the Barefoot Bar ... and the website makes no specific mention regarding reservation policy. Sorry!

The restaurant is a large "open air" layout with some seating on the open (no cover) patio. I think it would be a great spot for a large family gathering -- but do be sure to make reservations: (808) 922-2268. We are not into "night life" and have never felt either uncomfortable or crowded-out by entertainment when dining.
