Looking for opinions on Plaza Restaurant and Grand Floridian Cafe. On dining plan and looking to use our TS credits at these places. I don't see any appetizers on the Plaza Restaurant menu - are there any? Anyone have the meatloaf at the GF Cafe? Thanks!

We LOVE the Plaza Restaurant and consider it kind of a hidden gem in the MK. I just got off the phone with WDW to make ADRs there in Sept. for dinner. Here is why we love it - picture yourself at the busiest time of day, wanting to sit in a quiet & cool location and have a nice dinner without waiting in some terrible counter service line -- good luck finding that in the MK at last minute notice when everyone is starving and looking for the same thing...If you have an ADR at the Plaza, you walk in, sit down and watch all of the other people trying to get seated who never can b/c it is totally booked. This is our experience every time. We LOVE the Plaza! No, the food isn't some amazing menu or anything, but sitting down, being served in the cool of the small restaurant right on Main Street is priceless to us... :sunny:

The Plaza, had been one of our fav. lunch spots, & dessert. Have nice corn-beef sandwichs / rubens. And usually great ice cream. However; last august we noticed the menu food and ice cream somewhat scaled down. The main room is our fav. there is a smaller side room that seems warm whenever we are seated there. This is usually a good sandwich place to seat and get waited on, but nothing real special other than main street. Service is pleasant. We eat here so often that 2 of the cm's asked what park we where castmembers in? They said they have remembered us for years. We told them we visit often but are from Illinois. :teeth: They laughed, and said they always recgonized us.

GF cafe, we love this resturant. Especially at the off times when it is somewhat empty. It is truely a hidden gem. Very large and diverse menu. Great service. And a truely beauitful room. Food is anything from steaks to soup and sandwiches. Your choice. It has a quiet relaxing atmosphere.

Either one is a great option. Have a great time. mky princess:

It's funny that the other posters call both Plaza and GF Cafe "hidden gems", because that is EXACTLY what DH and I say about them. You don't really hear much about them as compared to other places here on the boards.

At Plaza (we also make a PS) I generally order the turkey sandwich. It is yummy...on nice multigrain bread, and served with the BEST german potato salad ever. It is very nice to be there on a crowded hot day. We always feel rejuvenated after our meal.

GF cafe has the best breakfast on property IMO. I would eat here over any breakfast buffet any day. I have had the veggie frittata, turkey sausage, fresh granola with blueberries, and the fruit plate...DH usually gets the eggs benedict. Everything is perfection...even the coffee and cappucinos. We have only had breakfast here, but hope to soon try it for lunch or dinner.

Oops, I don't share the other's opinions about the Plaza (haven't been to the GF Cafe)

First of all, I thought all the CMs at the Plaza were grumpy and some were even rude!! (like the older woman at "check in", she was so impolite!!!)
I wanted to go to the Plaza, because I had been 2 weeks in the US, and didn't have a hamburger yet (impossible!!!), and I wanted to eat a "nice" hamburger in a "nice" place.
The hamburger was dry and tasteless. The salad I ordered before was really good though.

The only positive point (and only reason why I would EVER go back), is the interior. The Plaza is absolutely beautiful!!!!

We enjoy the plaza too. I love the milkshakes. We have made a ADR for the plaza for our September trip. Check out the menu on allearsnet.com/menu/menus.htm
- this should help you decide.

Thanks for your comments. I been to Disney many times but never tried these places. I think I will try them. :thumbsup2

The one thing that sticks out for me about the Plaza Restaurant is that I believe, at least in terms of money, it is the worst value for use in the Dining Plan. I believe if we planned to eat there, we'd pay OOP and save our TS credits for someplace ritzier.
