Today, my daughter gave me her PS 2 and said she no longer wants it. She isn't into video games anymore. So, this leaves me with a perfectly good working PS2 and a ton of "g" rated games. I was thinking to sell it on ebay. What would be a good asking price? I'm not sure how many games --- at least 10.

Now, I have to find her DS Lite... she probably won't want that anymore, either.

You can get about 30-40$ online for it. As for the games, it really depends on them.

What kind of g-rated games are they? The value is affected a lot by if they're available on the Playstation Store for download to the PS3.

Some might be worth $10 each or probably couldn't pay for some one to take it.

I agree it depends on what games they are. Anything worthless I would bundle with the system and sell the games worth more money separate.

I was thinking to bundle everything up together to sell it. The games are all "G" rated kid games. I was thinking if I bundle it all up, I could get maybe a total of $50-$60?

Do you have a Gamestop near you? Though not advertised as they prefer to give credit and keep rolling the money back in to their store they will give you a cash price for everything (you just have to insist that that's what you want). Then you can either take or leave their price but if you leave it, it at least gives you a starting price for your e-bay listing.

Alternately, look through the looking glass the other way on this.. see what Gamestop sells used PS2 systems/games for. (Original system sells for 40, slim design for 50). Your target sale price should be below this. e.g. I wouldn't pay that much on eBay if I could just get it at gamestop for that price, with a guarantee attached.

Honestly, especially on the second hard market like ebay, I wouldn't pay more then $30-$40 for a used PS2. That would include all cords and controllers.

The games would depend ON the game. Since they are kids games, I am guessing they won't be worth much at all (I can't think of any hard to get kids games that would have gamers paying much).

Just take a look at the completed listings on ebay. PS2's are still selling like crazy, even broken ones.

They're just not staying in the US. Most of these systems are being modded and sent overseas to countries where the system was never sold.

Sure but Gamestop isn't throwing in 10+ games and an extra controller for the $50.

I'm going to look into Gamestop and see what they can give me. I definitely don't need a credit since she's fullly outgrown video games already.

Gamestop will generally give you 50% of the resale value. Minus another 20% if you want cash over credit.

Update: I went to Gamestop today. I had the system, 2 controllers, 10 games, and a memory card. He said he could give me $20 (cash) for the entire thing. Are you kidding me?!?!?! They're selling the exact system for $40 --- not including controllers, of course. Those are sold separately.

I looked on ebay and I see the same thing selling for $50 or more plus shipping.

At this point, I'm not sure if I'll go the ebay route or just give it to a local charity.

Yes, I saw that. I'm thinking about selling it on ebay. Gamestop is NOT the way to go! What a ripoff!

You might also consider selling it through amazon. They take a percent of the sale, so check out the particulars before you decide whether it's a better deal for you than ebay is. You can also check on what each individual game is going for on the used market on amazon. Even if you don't use amazon, it'll give you an idea of what the stuff's worth.

I don't get why you are shocked... They need to make a decent profit on the system. Depending on how well they sell for them, who knows what their product turnover is. An individual doesn't have to worry about those things.

And they would have given more for a credit...

I see them all the time at savers and goodwill for about $20....

I'm thinking it may be less fuss and bother donating it to a local charity. Get a letter for the tax write off. Maybe a church that has an after school program. I know at our church they have an xbox and Wii with appropriate games that are used for both the YF and the after school program. The guys especially love playing the Madden games. Good luck whatever you decide ! :thumbsup2
