My DBF would like a game console for Christmas, however he doesn't know which one. Which one would you recommend for a 23 yr old? What are the pros and cons for each? Also, any good deals (BF, maybe?) that I should know about. Which games woudl you recommend for each as well?

Thanks!

my 19 sold his ps2 for xbox says much better graphics he play it on line.. not much help but this is what i know good luck

It seems that all of the "older" people I know, prefer X-Box. My husband bought one for himself--says that the X-Box is more adult.

The XBox seems to be what adults prefer.

I so an ad (maybe Target or TRU) that was selling the Xbox, 2 months of the "live" service, and 2 games as a holiday bundle for $149. I didn't think that was too bad since games run $20-50 a pop.

I asked the same question recently and my answer was tied to this....Already have a PSOne? If so, most PS One games can be played on PS2. We decided on the PS2. That way we can play the games we already have.

I'd vote for X-Box (we have one.) The PS2 is not as reliable a system and breaks more often. X-Box graphics are the tops of all the systems. One of the best ways to decide which system is to go to a store that sells all of them and look at the games available. See which system has the types of games that appeal to you and BF. If you have a Game Stop or EB Games in your area, check on the prices of refurbished systems. You might get a good deal. (I would hesitate to get a used or refurbed. PS2 though, due to its failure rate.)

Well, I just bought an X-Box, which then broke 2 weeks after buying it. Called the customer service line, which told me my warranty had expired in April(??). I told them, "gee, that's interesting, since I only bought it 2 weeks ago". I have to call them back once I dig out the reciept, and work the whole thing out. But, I wasn't overly impressed with the system not even lasting a month.

We had a great experience with X box customer support. Ours was out of warranty and my DH finagled a deal which would cost us a small amount to fix. He basically stated to them, do you want to lose a customer to the playstation or gamecube platform? They quickly changed their tune.

We love our Xbox.

X-Box better graphics, American Made........more mature games for mature players......with X-Box you can purchase monthy X-Box "live" in which you can play games with people from all over the nation (whoever also has an X-Box).........Built in Hard drive where with PS you have to buy memory cards............
My DS(17) did some research first before 'our' purchase.

I was basically going to say the same thing to them. Being a Nintendo customer all my life, I finally decided to try something else. I loved the system while it worked, so hopefully this will all get sorted out. I had figured that a threat to go back to Nintendo would be all it would take.

It really is totally dependent on what type of games he likes.

The PS2 is the better system if you like the Japanese style RPG (role playing games). If this is his type of game, there is no other system that is really an option.

The Xbox is the better system if he likes the shooter type games, whether they're 1st or 3rd person.

For your sports, racing, type games, both offer enough to keep anyone happy.

If you're wanting to take the machine online and maybe share your computer connection. The Xbox is ready to go online out of the box. The cost for Xbox live though I believe is around $50 for the starter kid, but that includes your 1st year of Live. I don't know what the monthly charges are (but could find out if it's important to you) once that year expires. We've been LIve for about 6 months and it add a whole other dimension to gaming. If you want to do this with a PS2, you'll have to also invest in a modem. Possibly even a hard drive, but our PS2 isn't online, so I'm not sure. There is no further charge to play online after that though.

I personally prefer the Playstation but that's only because the list of games appeals more to me. I agree that he should check out what's offered and go from there. Both systems are fun so it just depends on his own preferences.

For a 23yo, most definitely XBox. Pick up Halo and Halo2 while you are at it!
