Playing Detective

I don't know if I mentioned it here, but I had my purse stolen recently. I made a police report, and the very nice officer who took my report admitted that there would probably not be much they could do for me.

So I've been trying to play detective myself. With the help of my bank and credit card companies, I've found every place where the thief used or attempted to use my cards. Dates, times, addresses. I even spoke to the manager of one 7-11 where my card was used, and he said he'd pull the security tape from that night for me!

So I gave all this info to the police, and they were just "okay, thanks lady" in the most bored tone of voice. I asked what would happen next and the officer just said they would review all the information when they got to it.

Is it too much to ask them to follow up on this? I know it probably seems like a petty crime in the big scheme of things, but a crime is a crime, and would it really be such an inconvenience to drive over to a 7-11 three miles from my house and look at this stupid tape? The guy that robbed me as probably stolen from other people.

You Go Girl! :cheer2: I am sure the police departments have a lot more to worry about than your stolen purse, but for goodness sake, it wouldn't take that much time to take a look at the tape. Heck, it could lead them to an even bigger fish.

Good luck!

That is so awesome that you are doing your own detective work. It must be horrible to have your purse stolen, and you are being so proactive in the search and that's wonderful!

A few years ago, a woman was giving out our phone number when writing bad checks. Several places called my house looksing for this woman...well in the end, she came to the place where my mom was working at the time. Her phone number was one digit off of our number. My mom called every place where she wrote bad checks and gave them the correct phone number. It hasn't happened since! :lmao:

Many years ago, the apartment I shared with my best friend was burglerized. I was out of state and my best friend was at someone else's house. There was not alot stolen (jewelry and a gun). But one of the things was a ring that was custom made for my friend by her parents and was unique. It was not extremely expensive but meant alot to her. We became detectives! The police obviously were not going to spend much, if any, time on this. We were able to track down all three rings AND the handgun by visiting pawn shops and other places that sold used items. Every time we found something, we had to call the "detective" for him to go to that location and officially retrieve the item. She got her special ring back! It was actually kinda fun.

Will the 7-11 let you look at the tape or even get a copy? If so you could always look at it and then go to the police station and ask to look at mug shots, see if maybe this is a repeat offender. :thumbsup2

Good for you. Maybe if you're persistant, it will help!
