Despite all the research I did prior to our stay at POR last week (July 13-22), I did not realize that the playground area was being refurbished. The entire area was walled off. It looked as if the whole are might be demolished and entirely new playground equipment installed. This might not matter to most folks, but it was a bit of a disappointed (albeit not a huge one) for my kids. My younger ds and dd really enjoy playing in the resort playgrounds. (So far, CSR is their favorite; but AKL (flamingos close by) and WL (on beach) are close behind.

There wasn't much talk about it. There was a thread about it a couple weeks ago, but noone really had any info except I had read about some refurb going on there and possibly involving the pool/playground. Someone here did end up calling POR and they confirmed that there was something going on at the playground. Thanks for posting your finding. It is not a HUGE deal to us (the pool is more important), but none the less, my kids are a little disappointed that there will be no plyaground to play on, unless we trek all the way over to POFQ, but playing on the playground usually ends up being a spur of the moment thing. Did you happen to find out how long it will be walled up? Sounds like it might be awhile.

I am also interested to hear ... will the playground be closed indefinitely ...

say from now till labor day weekend ??

does anyone know for sure ?? or have any other info on this ??

thanks !

I spoke to someone at the resort about two weeks ago and I was told that the playground in getting updated and will be completed sometime in september. There was a thread that that maybe it was the pool that was having the construction. so happy it is not- we can do without the playground.

From what I know:

THE PLAYGROUND AT PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE IS CLOSED UNTIL AT LEAST MID SEPTEMBER.

This has been reported by a well respected poster.

But, you may see temporary fences near the pool area, it may not be a pretty view but at least the pool is open!

You can't see the walls from the pool. It's well screened by all the plants and the pool bar.

I m a bit dissapointed that it will be closed during our trip. Its one of the few great playgrounds for older kids.

Oh, what a bummer! We'll be at POR Sept 8-16, and I figured the kids could blow off steam at the playground on arrival day. We're not doing any parks that day, and won't get our swimsuits until ME brings our suitcases later in the day. Maybe we'll have to jaunt over to POFQ and check out the playground there.

Put your swim suits in your carry-on, there are towels available at the pool. Enjoy swimming and checking out the resort while you wait for your luggage. Ours has always come fairly quickly.

We are bringing our swimsuits with our carry so we can enjoy the pool when we arrive. We are using the magical Express and who knows how long that will take to get our luggage to our room. Hopefully it arrives not too late. . Also planning on checking out the resort. We arrive at the airport at 11:15am. We are also not doing parks on the first day- we are just going to explore the resort and in the evening take a ride on the boat to downtown disney for some dinner.
