We are going to WDW January 21 and DD3 is 39 1/2" with shoes on. Does anyone know where we can buy platform shoes for her? Any other ideas? She is a huge rollercoaster fan and went on the Barnstormer 9 times in a row when she was just 36".

Any help??

be were... you will be flamed!!! Don't do it... use regular shoes that have a normal sole... it's not worth you or your childs disapoitment for them to think they can ride only to have a cast memeber make the child remove their shoes to be measured... i've seen it done... think possitively in 24 days maybe your dd will grow the 1/2 inch...

The height restrictions are there for your child's safety. Maybe she will be tall enough. If she isn't she surely will be the next time you go.

I feel your pain and your childs! I am a 4'11" tall adult. I was 17 before I was tall enough to ride the "big rides" anywhere.
Keep in mind that the height restrictions are there for her safety..... not to be mean, as heartbreaking as it can be. She could get hurt if she's really not tall enough. That being said, they had my 5 year old take off his sandals with the thick heel to make sure he was tall enough. He was... by quite a bit...but they do tend towards the cautious side. I'd start building up now to let her know that she might not be able to make it. It will make it easier when they say no...
Oh.. and try not to take it out on the CM that tells her no, they are just doing their job, they don't like to disappoint a kid from what I can tell!

i bought tall shoes for all 3 of my kids. i am very safety minded and i thought it was just fine. we bought the hot wheels and barbie skate shoes at target a couple ofyears ago for my ooldest two and we got platform sandals for my youngest. i think i got them at payless. we used the tall shoes at disney and universal. we had no pproblems. they will only give you less than a inch. good luck!!

I was at WDW Dec 9th-17th and three different times saw a CM have a child take their shoes off and also saw then smash the child's hair down flat on their heads (Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Primeval Whirl). All three times the parents started yelling at the CMs that they'd take responsibility, but it was a no go.

It was obvious at Primeval Whirl what the parents were doing, because the little girl had on really thick flip flops and had her hair pulled straight up on the top of her head in a ponytail (think Pebbles Flintstone).

I personally wouldn't take the risk..the is a BIG difference between the Barnstormer and let's say..Space mountain, or Primevil whirl(eww i hate that one)..im 30 yrs old and 5'7'' and i get thrown around on those..i would never take my 3 yo on the bigger roller coasters right now...their little necks are way too delicate...
Obviously it is your child and you will make the final decision...but if you choose to get platforms, i would let you child kknow that the still might not be able to get on the big rides..JMHO...

My nephew has those skate shoes, they add almost an inch to his height. I don't know if they make them for really young kids though.

Also be aware that not all 40" rides measure the same. For example, my DD(4) barely made it according to the Splash Mountain measuring stick, but was well above the height on the Stitch ride...both are 40".

My DD3 is very small for her age, and was in 2T clothes 2 months before her
4th B-day last year. I bought her princess shoes from Wal-mart - the kind with the flashing lights in the sole. They gave her 1.5". Then I took double thick Dr Scholls inserts, and cut a double layer for her shoes. Worked like a charm, and she rode everything she wanted to. They never made her take off her shoes, but one girl slid a business card between her and the height marker, and denied her. We just went back later, when someone else was working, and got on fine.

Normally I would say dont do it, because of safety issues and whatnot. However, 1/2 inch is really a small amount, and I would probably try to push it myself. I would try a few different pairs of shoes, but I definatly would not put anything inside the shoes to make her taller.
My suggestion is Sketchers. They always seem to have a really huge sole on them.

FYI: Skate shoes such as Heely's are officially not allowed at WDW. I know some cm's turn a blind eye, but I have also seen some tell guests to take the wheels off/out when entering the park with them on. I don't think I'd put them on a 3yr old though ... I doubt they have developed the coordination required to stay upright with them on and I'd be worried about head & wrist injuries. I actually saw an 8yr old hurt his wrist (and break a $15 toy at the same time) at the BWV bus stop once while wearing heely's on our last trip.

Even if you dc doesn't make the height requirement, you'll still have a great time. We took ds to WDW 4x and DL 3x before he was able to go on any of the 40" rides and it never really put too much of a crimp in things. Rides like Space Mountain at WDW have a 44" height requirement, RnRC is 48" I believe, so ds still hasn't ridden those (yikes, he's so skinny I'd be afraid he'd fall out anyway). He's a little dare devil too and loves fast rides but he still really enjoys the other attractions he can go on.

I hope things work out for you... If your DD is only a half inch away from the requirement with shoes on.... there's a chance she could grow enough between now and then!

I would hate to see your child endangered, though... Height restrictions are for safety. Your DD should be prepared to be asked to take her shoes off...I've seen it happen.

My daughter is older and petite, she also misses many of the rides by an inch. I will not test the height restrictions when it could endanger her well being. Restrictions are there for a reason, and is it really worth it to take chances?

Only do it if you take full responsability when your dd is severly injured on the ride and you dont try a sue disney.

Add height at your own peril.

Also, how comfortable is your daughter going to be wearing around heavy built up shoes while walking through Disney World? Her little legs will get tired anyway don't add to it.

She didn't get injured, and we wouldn't sue Disney. We didn't let her ride anything dangerous for her. I didn't see the a problem with giving her a 1/2" so she could ride Soarin and Star Tours, though. It's not like I tried to slip her onto RnRRC or something! I know my own child, what she is capable of, and what I consider appropriate for her. She did beautifully on those rides - Soarin was a highlight of her trip, and she rode it 3 times. I am SO glad I bought her "tall shoes."

DS was 39 1/2 inches our last trip. In regular shoes he never had any problem getting on BTMRR. He went at least 8 times. He made it onto Soarin' once right at opening when people were pouring through the gates but was rejected when we came back with FastPasses. He made it onto Splash once (all DH could take.) Test Track was closed when we went and we didn't try Dinosaur or Tower of Terror. I can't think what else had a height limit, but the measuring stick thing at Big Thunder Mtn must have been low because DS easily made that height over and over.

If she wears thick soles they'll be more likely to check her. Good luck! Oh, DS still wanted to go on the Goofy coaster 300,000,000 times.

This happened to us at Splash in 2003, DD was in flat flip flops, hair down and she reached the height limit just fine, but the CM actually pushed her head down and said no. She was devastated and had a meltdown (she's got special needs) so no amount of my cajoling was going to help anything, she was done with Splash that trip. I was ticked, b/c she had been measured barefoot at the peds office and was plenty tall before we left, but this one CM was a bit of a grump and wrecked it for her. They can (and I've seen them do it) have you ejected from the park if you argue about it, too.

Honestly, I wouldn't want to take my child on a ride she doesn't "measure up" for. I won't risk her safety for a 3 minute thrill, sorry. Yes, my DD was upset, but we found plenty of other things to do and she was SOOOOO excited about riding Splash the next time, it gave her something new to look forward to.

You know at three it will be pretty easy to just avoid the rides that she is not tall enough for. Don't talk about them or point them out and she will never even know that they are there. It will mean that the adults will have to slit up in order to rides these rides and let one take your child to some ride that she can do while then other goes on these rides but that is just one of thoese trade offs for being a parent!!! Also just saying NO you can not ride it because the rules say you are not tall enough is a perfectly good answer if she does already know the ride exsist. I did it plenty of times when DS was little and then we celebrated with an ice cream when he was able to meet the height requirment. We will be there then same time you are!! Have a fun safe trip.
