So what will happen to the real, non-disposable, plates and silverware, in 1 bedroom and larger villas under the new guidelines? Will we see all villas stocked with disposables items we get in the studios? What about pots and pans. Or toasters?

What new guidelines are you referring to?

I had thought of that too.... I would think that the villas are not considered hotel rooms and may not fall under those guidelines. I can't imagine renting a villa with no dishes, pots/pans, coffee maker etc.

Just part of the mandates and guidelines:

Hotels
  • Guidelines:
    • Phase 1: Housekeeping services to be limited and allow for minimal guest and employee exposure
    • Phase 1: Promote, if available, mobile check-in
    • Phase 1: Housekeeping services only clean upon request, or when guests depart
    • Phase 1: Allow employees to work from home if not playing a critical role in serving guests
    • Phase 1: Only deliver room service to guests' doors
    • Phase 1: Provide self-parking
    • Promote social distancing for all guests and staff
    • Recommended touchless sanitizer at entry
    • Increase cleaning services/additional sanitation services through cleaning companies
    • Phase 1 & 2: Staff who are 65+ are encourage to stay home
  • Mandates:
    • All employees required to wear facemasks
    • Hand sanitizer at entry to be in plain visible sight
    • Temperature checks for staff prior to shift (temp above 100.4 must not enter premises)
    • All employees with flu-like symptoms advised to stay home
    • Front desk to sanitize themselves on a regular basis
    • Consistent cleaning of all guest areas
    • Front desk to utilize sneeze-guards
    • Remove all service items in guest rooms to include glassware, coffee cups etc.
    • Mini bars not to be stocked
    • Do no offer self food services
    • Space pool furniture according to distancing guidelines
    • Pool gates and pool chairs to be sanitized regularly
    • Door handles, elevator button and railing to be sanitized regularly
    • Remove all coffee makers from guest rooms
    • Remove all guest collateral items, except for those that are single use
    • Sanitize guest keys before and after each use
    • Sanitize bell carts after each use
    • Phase 1 & 2: No conferences

I’m just guessing, but I think those “collateral items” would include the body wash, shampoo and conditioner dispensers.

I hope they don't remove all those items from the kitchen and bathrooms that we have grown accustom to having. That would defeat the purpose of having a full kitchen. I know I don't want to have to bring my own cooking items that I might need. I love the fact that I don't have to bring my hairdryer (read on another thread, someone was wondering if hairdryers would be eliminated). It would certainly change things for a lot of DVC members.

I could see only such pots/pans dishes and silverware as would fit in the dishwasher with everything else supplemented with disposables

cabinets would be empty and guests could rerun the dishwasher for extra assurance

If this is what is needed it would likely mean more work for guest services where guests did not fully load the dishwasher. I think this could also trigger minimum stays for villas

I could see there being a rental system for plates/silverware/etc. You call the front desk requesting what you need, go down, and pick it up. It is then yours for the stay. Once you leave, those things get cleaned like crazy. You're not sterilizing every single item provided in each DVC villa, but you still have the opportunity to utilize that full kitchen.

I am not sure I understand the concern about all of these household items - coffee makers, pots, pans, etc. - being of more concern and needing to be removed more than light switches, the refrigerator, the toilet, etc. Whenever we have gone into a hotel, we always wipe off items and wash dishes before using (or we don't). Why would they remove these things now? We are still sitting on the sofas, opening the doors, sleeping on the beds... I just don't understand the concern with the coffee maker and kitchen stuff.

So agree!

We are staying in resorts not hotels. I can’t believe they would take everything away that we would find in our “home”. we always had coffee and breakfast in room before heading out with family , and at end of day. I guess we will bring our own pot and coffee maker.

All I know is, before DVC we rented a shore house every single year. Same beach, same house. We had to bring EVERYTHING- sheets, towels, dishes, knives, the whole thing. And it was SO ANNOYING but we assumed that’s just what you do when you rent a shore house - and we drove down.

then I learned about DVC - all we had to do was fly down. Everything was going to be provided - it’s like your own house “they’ll even say, Welcome Home”! Pots and pans, dishes and even complimentary Joffreys coffee so you can enjoy your own cup on your own balcony - SIGH. What a dream. Just order groceries. (We only do one bedroom and up so full kitchen was pivotal in the purchase decision).

if they remove these things - i truly hope it’s temporary.
Otherwise I’m not sure how this is the same product we bought into.

I would imagine in villas with a full kitchen, the utensils and glasswares can be cleaned prior to use by guests. This is often not feasible in hotel rooms and it's probably why there are mandates for disposable items. Otherwise, are the restaurants required to serve foods with disposable plates and drinks with disposable cups?

LAX

I still don't get it about the disposable stuff, either. We are creating pollution and using so much antibacterial stuff (before this virus, we were told not to use so much antibacterial stuff for fear of getting a super-germ).
What about the thought of the air-conditioning system transmitting it to everyone? ETA that my point is, how are they addressing this problem going forward?

I think they need to use common sense before banning things that probably aren't going to make much difference when we are talking about transmission.

I've decided not to worry about this. We have no idea how DVC resorts will implement the mandates (or if they even apply to timeshare accommodations) and we won't until they open.

Any discussion now is just speculation. Yours is as good as mine.

The expense and time to do this for all the 1 and 2 bedrooms on WDW property (plus storage of said items) makes no sense from a cost/benefit standpoint.

And again, this is all "feel good" safety; are they going to steam all chairs/sofas/upholstery?? NO.

Solution around: Maybe only studios/hotel rooms open up?

I have always handwashed the dishes we need right away, then put all the rest, including any utensils trays in the dishwasher and run a load. While they're in there, I use a disinfectant wipe to wipe down the shelves and door pulls. Sometimes it takes two loads. Call me paranoid, but in our many trips, we've never gotten sick. So COVID-19 wouldn't change it for us.

I am speculating that they may remove the items from the room, and provide them upon request. Upon check out, they are removed from the room to be cleaned/sanitized/etc.

I bet they put a stock a paper/plastic utensils, plates, bowls, cups, etc. in the villas. Then pots/pans/bakeware/etc will be provided upon request.
