We are headed to Disney in August with friends and I have been dieting since January and have lost 40 pounds. I still have a ways to go. I want to enjoy Disney but I still want to be cautious. We have reservations at Teppan Edo and 50's Prime Time Cafe. I can not find calorie counts any where and even called guest services and calorie counts are not available. We can share meals at counter service to cut calories but can you share meals at the table service restaurants? If you have a great source for calorie counts it would be greatly appreciated. I am using my fitness pal and want to continue logging my meals even though I am not going to keep in my calorie ranges.

finding nutrition information is tough at Disney. I would suggest deconstructing your meal as best as possible

On the plus side, the miles you walk will help offset the increased calories

I don't know about sharing at Teppan Edo. I haven't dined there in a few years, not sure of the portion size, if it is shareable or not.

You can absolutely share at Prime time

Have fun and congrats on the success!

In your situation, I would just look up food items on myfitnesspal and select the one that seems to have the average amount of calories. It won't be exact, but it will likely be close.

Go with the Wedge Salad at 50's. It's a hefty portion - just ask for the dressing on the side.
Teppan Edo should be easier. You can go with sushi or chicken, etc. You get to actually watch them cook it. Go easy on the sauces - they're addicting!

I eat healthy almost year round. Sure, I have my moments where I let myself go, but I like to keep a nice body. I used to be 247. At my lightest, I was 156 pounds! I always push myself to lose an extra 5 pounds before Disney. We go every year for Xmas, so between the holidays and being on vacation, I go overboard. Seriously go overboard, eating far more than I normally do.

I can totally understand why you'd wanna keep your diet, within reason. 40 pounds is awesome! Keep going! But do keep in mind that you're doing a lot more activity than you're used to (most likely). You're walking - ALL DAY. My Fitbit logged me at over 20k steps a day. Some days I'd walk close to 8 or 9 miles. Sure, I wasn't working out like I normally do, but I was keeping active and walking when I'd normally be sitting.

Do keep in mind that Disney uses A LOT of salt. A LOT of it. They salt the salt at Disney. You're gonna see a lot of water weight, regardless. Don't stress the second you come home. I usually go home thinking "oh man, I overdid it. I probably gained 10 pounds." I'm usually right. I step on the scale and it's +10. Then I drink a ton of water, cut carbs for a week and I'm down to +2 net pounds gained. And that's after literally eating nonstop in Disney.

The calories will be higher at Disney. The running joke is that there's no calories in Disney - a joke that comes from self indulgence and on a serious note:the fact that you're so active. It's not like a cruise where you're sitting down and eating. You're constantly moving.

You will get bloated, but I'm happy to see that DIsney offers a lot more healthy options. But don't be deceived by the "healthy" options. The McDonalds-style "healthy" like salads with tons of dressing or chicken breast smothered in cheese.

You made two good choices. Teppan Edo is fantastic. You may be able to talk to your chef beforehand and ask him to limit the grease on your meat and/or veggies. Tell him to cook them "dry" if possible. I'm not sure about how that'd work but I'm sure they can make changes for you.

As for 50's - the wedge salad is fantastic. They also have a caesar salad with salmon, which is a great choice - as well as fish. All healthier options.

But... you're in Disney. Keep your diet but treat yourself to an ice cream. Life is short. If you gain 3 pounds just go harder in the gym for a few weeks. It's a setback, not a permanent gain! Have fun!

Thank you so much for all the replies. I am lucky to have a great husband who will share and spit things with me. So I am glad we can split at Prime time. I have several high calorie favorites that we will get and share three, four or more ways... the cinnamon roll at Gaston's. I will . I have a garmin vivo fit so I will be tracking my miles. I am glad we can share meals. The wedge salad sounds great! I think I will comb the menus and break down the meals and come up with calorie counts to add. I can add them in. I am looking for Be Our Guest Potato leek soup recipe now and have added the recipe to my fitness pal for calorie counts. I have a few weeks I am going to try this with as many Disney recipes as I can find and any other myfitnesspal users can find the calories. Thanks again everyone!

As a fellow myfitnesspal user, I will definitely appreciate anything that you enter in the system. Thank you! Congratulations on your weight loss and best wishes for continued success on your weight loss journey!

The greatest calorie counter "app" in the world is your appetite. That's exactly what an appetite is. It tells you when you need more calories by alerting you with "hunger" and when you have had too many calories your app signals "full". You've done great by losing 40 lbs. You've SEEN what your portions look like and you know that when you count your calories, you leave the table feeling a little bit hungry but then within about 15 minutes are satisfied and can make it a couple of hours before needing to add more calories to the tank. That's the key. Keep your tank about 1/4 to 3/4 full, ALWAYS. Don't ever be famished. Don't ever be stuffed.
You don't need nutritional information to loose weight. You just need the discipline you have already demonstrated to control the portion size.
Keep it up. Don't stop eating correctly because you are on vacation. But, enjoy what you do eat. Don't punish yourself by withholding anything. Just eat less of it.

I'm very interested in the question that has not yet been answered : can you share a plate in most table services ? How do you ask ? What can I expect ?

You can definitely share at all and every restaurant!
As for logging them, I find it's best to "deconstruct" everything IF you're good at guesstimating portion sizes, like, how much of this brocoli am i eating? kinda thing. Also be wary of sauces, butter, and all that stuff that's put on it before it comes out to you, that adds a lot. It may be worth while at least attempting to ask that?

You can share at most table service restaurants where you order from a menu. Just let your server know when you order. At some restaurants they will split the dish in the kitchen while at others they will bring an extra plate to the table.

You cannot share and everyone has to pay at buffets (e.g. Crystal Palace, Biergarten), all you care to eat family style meals (e.g. Garden Grill, 'Ohana), the 3 dinner shows (Hoop De Doo, Spirit of Aloha Luau, Mickey's Backyard Barbecue), fixed price meals (e.g. CRT, Akershsus), Dining Packages (e.g. Candlelight Processional, Fantasmic, Jungle Book), special events (e.g. fireworks dessert parties, F&W special events) and the family platter at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

As for recipes, the disboards has a Cooking forum further down (it's under "The Creative Community") with many Disney recipes. Also, allears has a big Disney recipe collection.

Congratulations, 40 pounds way to go!

I hear you about loving Disney but not the scale when we get home. I watch everything I eat when I am home and at Disney I enjoy in moderation. I bring natural peanut butter (individual ones) so every morning I can I have my normal breakfast. Whole Wheat toast with peanut butter (so far so good), then for lunch I try to have salads with dressing on the side or I order a grilled chicken sandwich and just eat the tomato and lettuce with the chicken no bread. I drink tons and tons of water, as I do at home (I know where every ladies room is...lol). Last but not least I enjoy dinner...a drink, maybe two share an appie and dinner. Dessert is always ice cream (my weakness) and try to make smart dinner choices while still indulging a little...reality is only days away when we're home and eating simple again.

I usually come home after 8 nights gaining under 5 pounds and I can deal with that. After a week home its usually gone and all I have is photos :(!!

You can enjoy and do well...Good luck and have fun!!

May I suggest avoiding the calories of the cinnamon roll at Gaston's? The last time I had it, I thought it was horribly dry, even with a lot of icing on top. We both threw it away after a few bites. Get something that will taste good for those calories.

If you go to AK, there is a cart right before you get to the Kilimanjaro Safari that sells fruit. They have the best pineapple spears there. Very cold and very juicy. I'd eat several of those before I would waste money on the cinnamon roll at Gaston's.

Congrats on the weight loss. I'm a healthy eater and work out at least a half hour at least 4 days a week, I'm also a tad older, 59. I've found it's fairly easy to eat healthy at WDW. Usually for breakfast and lunch I order off the kid's menu at QS, the portions are just right and they normally include fruit, bonus you save money. I don't drink soft drinks at home so there is no temptation there, water is my usual drink, I also drink black coffee and black hot tea and do enjoy a glass of wine every now and again. For TS restaurants, I tend to order an appetizer as my entre and a salad. I don't eat dessert very often but if I do it's just a bite or two and I'm satisfied. I do love ice cream and do go to France at Epcot and get at least one cone during my trip and and have discovered the soda fountain at the Dolphin. Do not count on the normal walking you do at WDW to make a difference, it is not sustained walking and you rarely get your heart rate up. I still get up every morning while on vacation and do at least a half hour brisk walk around the resort, it usually very peaceful and relaxing. I try to eat 5 small meals at home but have found I don't do that at WDW. I just eat breakfast, lunch and dinner but I don't snack between meals, I'm just normally too full from my meals. I love the muffins from the little stand right outside the Safari ride at AK but they are huge so I normally only eat half one. You can order regular meals and just don't eat all of them or even order kid's meals, even at TS, they are not all hamburgers and hot dogs, I've never eaten either at WDW.
