Plastic Surgery Question (Scars)

What about collagen injections to plump them up?

Thanks for the suggestion BUT.......I was told by the lady who did my microdermabrasion that the injections only last 3-6 months. I really want something that will last a long time. I don't want to keep on going in to the clinic and dishing out lots of money every few months.

Gotcha. I'm just scared of all that stuff because I form keloids (raised scars). I let an OB/GYN talk me into having a small mole removed from my upper chest (yep, on one of em), even though it was not cancerous, pre cancerous or anything. The dermatologist that removed it cut it instead of using something called a punch, and sutured. Well, the scar I have now, 18 years later, is a lot more noticeable than that mole ever was. Same thing with one that was removed from my back that was melanoma, keloid there now and it was our BFF plastic surgeon that removed it.

There are actually some injections now that cause the production of collagen at the injection site and can be a more permanent solution. I can't think of the name off the top of my head, but I'm sure it'll come to me and I'll post an update.

Also, if the scars are not terribly large, you might want to try a retinol cream. I had a small crater-type scar on my left cheek that retinol cream practically eradicated. It is still there, but only barely. Unfortunately, if I stop using the cream, it comes back. :confused3

As far as laser resurfacing, it varies depending upon the area to be treated. I was given a quote of $1500.00 for the area around my eyes. It is not painful and if I recall, takes about a week or 2 for recovery. Your face will be very red like a sunburn and you cannot wear makeup. After a week to 10 days, depending upon how you heal, you will still be slightly red, but you can wear make-up at that point.

Thanks Kim for the great info! I can't believe laser can be so expensive! I was hoping to keep this around $500-700 total. The three "craters" are small, so maybe the cost won't be that much. I guess I'll find out more next week at my appt!
I am not very good with creams....I think I would forget to do it each day. I really need something that will last.
