We are flying when we travel for our land/sea vacation next month. I bought 2 really cute plastic pirate swords for pirate night. When security screens my bag through the x-ray machine, will it look like a weapon. Could my bag possibly be searched or delayed because of this? I plan to put it in the checked bag not a carry on. I may just leave them home. I'm a little worried about it. :confused3

It sounds like a cute idea, but I don't know if I would try it. They xray checked luggage and if they see it, they will probably break or open the locks on your luggage and take them out, being plastic they might put them back, but I doubt it. A neighbor of ours flew with her son back from Florida one time and he was big into toy guns and they had alot of trouble with that and this was way before 9/11. Sorry. :confused3

For our March cruise I put four plastic swords in our checked luggage and never had a problem with the airline or at the port. I put them right on top of the suitcase with our other pirate paraphernalia in case someone decided to check out the bag, but I did not have any of the notes that I think TSA has to put in your luggage if they open it either time. I had asked DCL and they said that it would not be a problem for their security procedures. So I would say definitely bring them in checked luggage. The kids had fun with them, they were great in pictures, and my son had a sword fight with our server after dinner!

When we went to WDW last summer I bought my DS a plastic sword. I put it in the checked luggage and didn't have any problems. I do think that one of the suitcases had one of those TSA tags in it, but I am not sure which one.

Just got back from the April 16th Magic took my plastic sword down to MCO and back, no problem either way checking in my luggage. It was a hit at the table during Pirate night!

Because the density of plastic vs. metal is so different, the xray machines (or at least the opperators) will hardly notice the plastic swords.

We just got back March 28 (I can't believe it's over already) and we brought inflatable swords for our kids. I got them at a party supply store (Party City)- Just blew them up on board then deflated them for the next trip- May '06 :Pinkbounc

we bought a pirate gun and it has metal and we packed in our checked luggage, we watched it go through x-ray machine and they never blinked.
So, if that made it I am sure a plastic sword would. :wizard:

We were on the April 10 Wonder and my brother in law brought a plastic sword. His bag was checked by security (He knew because they removed his strap and he found it in his luggage on top of the sword) but they did not remove the sword. It was a big hit since none of us knew he had brought it. He also dressed appropriately with the eye patch and all!!!

The key is put them in CHECKED baggage. I have heard of these being removed from carry-on but not from checked.
