Plastic knives

I've recently stayed in several Airbnbs/VRBOs. Each one had a container of plasticware with all the forks and spoons gone, but tons of knives left. At my home, I have probably two or three boxes of plasticware with only the knives left.

Does everyone own a box of plastic knives?

Yes we have boxes of forks, knives, and spoons plus paper plates hardly ever use real.

Yes. We don’t use them often, but we have them. A plastic knife is handy to add to a lunch bag to spread peanut butter/cream cheese on crackers.

I do not think we have a box of them. I do not really use the knives too much, spoons and forks are the only things we get. I know there are some in the junk drawer though, I think they are leftovers from places that package all 3 and we only end up using spoons and forks.

What, you people don’t wash your plastic forks and spoons? :lmao: (Just kidding, but I think my MIL actually did!)

You were at the ready after hearing Alanis Morissette's Ironic. "It's like ten thousands spoons when all you need is a knife." See, you are prepared! (like a doomsday person,)

Don't ask me why my mind went straight here, but it did.

Like 10 years ago I got the big box of plastic cutlery from Costco (360 pcs). I just keep adding more forks or spoons when necessary. Still working off the original knives And at this rate might be 2 more decades until all the knives are used.

Yes, always more knives left from the mixed packs.
I buy the huge packs of forks from Costco.
We use plastic ware for our family get togethers every weekend......and paper plates. I don't want to do any extra clean up.

Rarely use plastic utensils so no idea if we've extra knives. I think there are a few utensil packs we've gotten in takeout stuck in the storage containers cupboard somewhere.

We have far too many bamboo chopsticks, though. We're both adept with those and actually prefer them for packed lunches.

You can buy packages of just forks or spoons so as to avoid the knife problem. I get spoons only and keep them in my office desk drawer for yogurt. We never use them at home and if I need to take some to an event like a picnic or potluck I just leave the excess there.

Same here - we were just looking at what we had left in our giant box of plasticware from Costco - no forks, some spoons and a lot of knives.

I just put a spoon or whatever I need for my lunch in my lunch bag. Bring it back home and stick in dishwasher.
Can’t recall last time I bought or used plastic utensils. Don’t see how using them are any easier than sticking utensils in a dishwasher.

My grandma does. She also washes chopsticks....despite those being made of wood and can't be washed the same way a plastic fork or spoon could.

Our drawer in the office that has the leftover platicware from team lunches, etc. has a TON of knives, but not as may forks & spoons. They just don't get used as much, but the restaurants bring them every time!

We always have knives - my husband will even open individual packs, pull out the fork and spoon and leave the knives until I find them and throw them away.

Unrelated....but, I needed disposable spoons recently. I ordered a box from Sam's Club that were really reasonably priced. When I finally pulled them out to use them, I realized that I had purchased metal spoons. I now have 50 spoons just begging to be washed and used. LOL

LOL I was just talking about this the other day. We have tons of knives left over from the plasticware sets we buy. I tend to buy the large quantity package because we go through a lot of forks and spoons but not the knives. Walmart makes a box of just spoons and forks, they clearly know what's going on

ETA You can purchase huge boxes of just forks or just spoons from Sams club too.
