Plastic Hopper Passes

Hi,
Went to The Disney Store today to buy our Park Hoppers, and was pleasantly surprised to find out that they are plastic (not as firm as a credit card, but kind of like any type of gift card would be).

They were on a display rack, and just need to be validated when rung up at the register. I was dumb enough to ask if it was some sort of voucher that had to be validated again somewhere at WDW, like an AP, but in fact, these are the real deal.

Another nice thing is that the Passes can be tracked, and refunded if need be, if the Passes are lost or stolen. Just need the receipt of purchase. (I would assume that the other ones can too, right?)

The CM said that they've been like that for a couple of years, but the ones we purchased last year at WDW were the 'paper' kind.

Just curious, but how long has it been since the switch from the paper to plastic?

We bought our passes at the Disney store before our trip over a year ago. They were plastic at that time. However, my dh's got demaged while we were in WDW. They issued him a new pass, but it was the paper type. Still has 1 day and two plus visits on it, so we'll be using it this summer. But I'm glad the new ones will still be plastic. Have to pick ours up soon.

I just purchased 2 adult and 1 child ticket at AAA and they are paper. I guess not everyone has the new ones.
