Plastic Bags For Liquids In Handluggage

Anyone know where to get the plastic bags to take liquids in hand luggage?

Any small, self-seal sandwich bags from your supermarket is fine.

Check www.baa.com (sorry I can't post a direct link to the appropriate page - they use some funny/long/dynamic page naming system) for all uptodate hand luggage information including size of bags.

As gilld says, though, any "small" size (i.e. the ones called "small") zip lock bags from your local supermarkey SHOULD be within the BAA requirements.

At christmas they were still giving them out at the airport before you go through security. I don't think the size matters much as its the amount of liquid that matters more, i think. Someone will correct me if i am wrong.

With Virgin the size of the bag was no more than 8" X 10"

They were giving them out to people that didnt have one.

I used a clear zip-lock bag.

According the BAA website (that I lined to a few posts back) the bag should a msx of 8" by 8". You may be able to get away with something different, but I tend to find that if I follow the rules to the later, there is never any problem or anything to argue about - anything else would risk catching a "jobsworth" on a bad day...

I understand the maximum size to be 20x20 cm - I bought a bag of 40 'small freezer bags' at Sainsbury's on Sunday for something like £1.69.

Coming home from the US last November, a very stern customs official told me she should confiscate my liquids as the ziplock bag was slightly too large (maybe 30cm x 20). Luckily she didn't, but I think there are some difficult ones around!

at Gatwick in Feb they were only allowing you to have bags of the correct size. sorry i can't remember what it was but it's posted on Virgin's website.

The bags we had were larger & we had to transfer what we had into one of the bags they were giving out. This didn't cause any problems.

We had the same problem a couple of weeks ago and established the allowance was one 8inch by 8 inch bag per person. We bought some resealable food bags from the supermarket (not the flap over sandwich bags) for £1.99 only to find them reaily handed out free at Gatwick

Plus there are restrictions on the amount of fluids inside the containers in the bags. Personally I am not bothering taking any liquids in hand luggage, in can go in the hold or be bought over there. Adds to the weight of the hand luggage in any case and I have enough electronics to deal with.

I got mine at local pound shop, 30 small ziplocks in a pack, they are slightly under at 17.5cm x 20cm but adequate for our needs.

I can vote for captain's too - v quick delivery. I ordered a few other sizes for my other packing needs, and they sent me loads of free samples that came in v useful. Cheap as chips too.......

Just been over to Amsterdam for the weekend, East Midlands Airport has stopped giving the bags. They have 2 dispensing machines there now charging 50p for them. No doubt all the airports will go the same way in the near future.
