I've been away from the boards for a while, but remember hearing a lot of rumors for a possible cruise in the Mediterranean for next year. Has anything come of this? This would be our 4th Disney Cruise, so we're really hoping for this new itinerary.

Currently no plans for a DCL ship to be positioned in the Med. They did do some market research last year and for a while it looked as if the Magic might spend the summer of 2004 there, but they later opened bookings for the Magic's two Caribbean routes through December of next year (and by now, possibly beyond that).

I think their "problem" is that they're selling their two current offerings very well, so there's no real incentive to move one of the ships. Other lines have the resources to position a ship in the Mediterranean or Alaska during the summer and still be able to supply the staple Caribbean market. If DCL ever decides to go ahead and order a third or even a fourth ship, it would give them options in other markets such as Europe, Mexico (Pacific coast), and Alaska. Here's hoping.

I would also bet that the current instability in the world would make relocating a ship to the Med less appealing. Not only has international air travel been dampened, but I do feel like a Disney ship so close to the Middle East would be something of a flashing neon sign to those who want to make trouble.

DCL has stated that they are NOT going ahead with a Mediterranean itinerary at this time.
