planning unit on WDW and need some help!!!

Hello...I'm relatively new to posting here, but ya'll have been so helpful with suggestions, I'm hoping some of you might be able to help me with this project. If this is in the wrong place, could someone please move it? Thanks.

I'm a special education teacher for student with learning disbilites and emotional handicaps. For a new job I'm applying for I have to design a unit integrating technology, standards, etc. Anyway, I though I would have my student work in groups planning a trip to WDW and the surrounding area for a family of 4. They will have to get information from websites, tour manuals, maps, brochures, pictures. Then they'll use this to plan a budget, make charts, graphs, plan a one day itinerary, etc. I have to finish this activity before the kids leave for Xmas. The application is due 1/3.

I'm headed to WDW in December and will be able to get some information then, but I was wondering if anyone had any old tour guides, maps, brochures, pictures of attractions, etc, lying around that they aren't using. By the time I get back, the kids will only have one week to work on this project. I was wondering if you might be willing to donate them for my class project.

I don't have anything to offer except advice, sorry! If you are in a rush for time I would go to the library and get a book on WDW and xerox the few pages you need that will have a simple map and attraction list. I know I have picked up WDW maps at a Disney store before, but not sure which ones have them or not. Also would look on line for the Disney site and download the opening times and maybe some menus for casual food so the kids can work out a budget. I think they also have showtimes so they could plan on what they would do each day.

I am a compulsive collector of park maps and those silly free guide books they give you at off site hotels and restaurants. I am sure i have some in my Disney file. (yep - i have a disney file. It grows every year!) I also could list some great sites (other than here) and even copy some of my info from past trips to send as examples if you would be interested.

We just returned and I have some park maps that we brought home. PM me your mailing address and I'll send the bits and pieces that I have. It sounds like a fun unit. Also call Disney and ask, they are very good to teachers and may just offer to send you what you need for the whole class. Good luck.

I would giva a call to the front desk of one of the resorts, they might pop all the park maps and other info in the mail for you.. worth a try.

disneyworld.com can help with itineraries and pricing for resorts. tickets etc. Some of the websites also allow you to download park maps. Hope this helps

I have a 2000 version of a Passporter, that I would be happy to send you. If you don't know what it is, it is a spiral bound planner/Disney book. Very cool.

I have unsolicited advice for you, since it seems as though you will have more guidebooks and maps than you know what to do with!

I teach 5th grade and last year after all the materials were collected the first week in May and I had three weeks to teach with no resources I created a WDW unit.

I'm not at school this week so I don't have my materials, but in a nutshell, here's what I did:

* Note taking from Birnbaum's and then used to create a database

Guided Practice on Main Street and then they completed the rest of the lands.

We then took the notes and created a Database so that the kids could sort according to whether or not they would ride it (that was a field), whether it was a Birnbaum's best, etc.


* PowerPoint presentation with presuasive techniques to convince their parents to take them

These turned out really nice. The kids got clip art and sound from the internet.

* Spreadsheet with a budget
