Planning tips for bringing a 1 year old

I have been meaning to post on here about this for some time now just to get ahead of the game. Our first baby is/was due on July 15th, but to our suprise/shock she decided she was ready to meet us 3 months early and was born on April 14th. She is a whopping 1.9lbs and 14.5 inches long and is doing great so far. We wont be able to bring her home from the hospital until around her due date in July so it is going to be a strange couple months.

But enough with the rant about that here is what i am actually posting for...

I am so excited to experience Disney through my daughters eyes and i want to plan a trip for about a year from now, maybe a year and a half. What would be your tips/strategies/things i need to know for bringing a 1 year old to Disneyworld. I have been multiple times but have not ever been with a child so it will be a new experience for me. Thanks for your help.

We took our twins at 15 months and it was a great age. No chasing them around quite yet but they were sturdy enough. With a micro preemie like yours I would plan on going a time of year that wont be quite so hot or crowded, maybe Nov-Jan ish. I have a dear friend who's micro preemie was 1 lb 1 oz when she was born at 23 weeks and is a beautifully developing three year old now. Congratulations on your little baby girl. I know that NICU time is incredibly hard. Best to you both!

Something that has helped tremendously is by babywearing. It keeps baby close, and keeps your hands free! If you haven't had a chance to check out a local babywearing group, I highly suggest you do! They have lending libraries so that you can try out a carrier or wrap before committing. i hope this helps Congratulations on your blessing!

I have seen on here alot of parents do that and i was going to look into what the best options were for it. Thank you very much.

Congratulations on your precious little one. Our DS was born at 24 weeks and weighed 1lb 10 ounces and was 12 inches. He graduates from collage tomorrow! NICU can be a stressful and trying time for everyone and using some of that time to plan a trip is a great idea! I would remember that those special little ones like to do things on their own time line so I would not get too concrete with the date for quite a while. RVS is huge issue for premature babies and will be even for up to a couple years old so the doctor is not likely to OK a WDW visit during RVS season for a couple years. That first year can also be pretty busy with follow up doctor visits and other appointments.
What you can do now is to learn everything about about WDW! Look at character meals to find your favorites! Read all the resort boards to choose a resort you will love. Download the My Disney Experience App and pretend you are there! Check wait times and available ADRs. It a fun brain escape and it helps you understand peak vs off season differences. Thank you for the advice. I guess i didnt really think about the fact that she might not be able to travel next year. We will figure that out before we make any definite plans. Hopefully she develops well and a year from now it will be like she wasnt even a preemie. I will check out the boards and download that app and play around with it. Thank you very much. Congratulations! I took my then 9 month old last October, and will be taking her again this September at 20 months. As long as you are prepared, patient and flexible, you will be fine! So some things that I did to make life easier... I brought a small lunchbox size cooler and ice packs. I used this to keep her milk, opened snacks and water cool throughout the day. I took a strap that secures the sippy cup to the stroller, because all children think it's hilarious to play the game "pick up". Since she wasn't quite all on table foods at that point and time, I purchased organic food pouches for her to eat. Instead of a normal diaper bag, I purchased a Jujube Be Right Back backpack diaper bag, which we used as our park bag as well. Lets see, what else. Hmm. Our clip on stroller fan helped keep her cool in her stroller, as well as a light, thin blanket to drape over her stroller when she napped to keep the sun off of her. Take breaks, utilize the AMAZING baby care centers ( if you forget something like diapers, wipes, food etc, they have it for purchase!) and just enjoy Disney from a different perspective.
