Planning 'The Reveal'

Last year when we took the kids for their first trip, we didn't properly plan the reveal and it ended up we just made the flight and the kids had no idea why we were at the airport or where we were going and they didn't even question us. They just knew, we had to hurry :)

I started working on the reveal for our trip in 5 weeks last night. I've put together a slideshow of pictures from last year's trip along with a few slides that will creatively tell them we are going back, all with Disney music playing in the background.

Now that they've been and know what Disney is, I'm sure we'll get a nice reaction out of them. Last year, they had no idea so it wasn't as important.

Of course, the challenge in all of this is was trying to ask them what colour MB they would want if we ever go back, which lead to me explaining what a MB was. Each of them have picked a colour and a Disney character as their name.

Anyone care to share their reveal stories?

Well my DD's 1st trip was in July and she knew since Christmas that she was going. She was 2 so we didn't think we would get much of a reaction if we did a big reveal. We talked it up leading up to the trip and got her all excited about it. And we put together a care package from "mickey" to give her at the resort. It was a nice surprise for her.

She had sooo much fun (and we did too) we decided to upgrade our tix to AP before we left in July so we could go back before the end if the year (before DD turned 3). We're going for Thanksgiving in a couple weeks and DD doesn't know! I going to pack everything during naps the week before and the day we leave we're going to wake her up and say "guess where we're going today!" And video tape her reaction.

We were nervous about the MB thing too, asking her what color she wanted and her possibly putting 2 and 2 together. But she's big into dress up and jewelry so we told her we were getting a Mickey bracelet for her and asked her what color she wanted lol... she had no idea :-)

We surprised the kids last year the day before our trip. I planned the trip by myself in less than a month - decided we would go over Spring Break. The kids had a half day of Thursday - so while they were at school, I put 4 suitcases in the living room with a paper inside that I printed with the Castle on it and said "Pack your bags - We're going to Disney". So, I drove them home from school and when they walked in, they saw the luggage all over the room and were like "what's going on, why are there suitcases?" So, I told them to look inside. It took them a minute or so for it to register, then they started screaming and getting excited. Even more so, when I told them we were actually leaving the next morning. They had only that evening to pack and get ready. It was fun! They really liked being surprised. So, this year, I decided I would surprise them again - but this time I gave them 3 days notice. I bought each of the girls a Vera Bradley Grand Traveler and DS5 a Lightning McQueen suitcase for Disney Store and wrapped them up with a note inside. Gave it to them on their last day of school in June. This time I changed it up - told them we were going on a road trip, but wouldn't tell them where. I tried to give them clues to persuade them that it was somewhere other than Disney, but I think they all pretty much knew. It was still fun for them being surprised. I'm sure I'll try another surprise trip in the future!
