and we need ideas!!! PTA was told just recently that we are responsible for planning the after prom party. Years past we have gone to an Family Fun Park in our area - but it is being remodeled and is not available!! Does your child's school do one? If so, will you please share what, where etc.. The prom is being held at the school therefore we would like to go somewhere else for the after prom, but the gym is available. Thanks!

I know where I used to live I think they rented out the local country club. They had planned activities all night long and it was very structured. I dont remember all the activities but the one that got me laughing was the kids dressing up with those huge sumo wrestling suits. Good planning and supervision is important. Best of luck.

Our prom was held at a hotel in the ballroom, so the after prom party was in the gym of our school. They had a lot of raffles for things like computers, cars, food, etc. I think they even had one of those moon bounce things in there. There was a dj and there was some dancing. The rest is pretty foggy - I went almost 10 years ago.

Oure were pretty lame, so we never stayed for the whole thing. (They didn't call parents when kids left like they did at the Catholic school after-prom)

A couple of years they had an entertainment act that you got tickets for. Meaning depending on when you got there you would get a ticket with the show time you could attend. One year it was a commedian, another it was a hypnotist. They also had other activities, this just being one of them

They had casino nights a couple of years. You got so much "money" and at the end of the night you could "buy" prizes with the money you had made.

I think they had sumo wrestling suits my senior year. They had Kareoke a couple of times.

We had it in the "open areas" of the mall at least one year. Maybe see about doing something like that? Or even if there is an empty anchor spot using their room? Then contact the movie theater and see about private showings of a movie?

How about the local bowling alley? Having an all night "glow bowling"?

They had a carnival my sophomore year. That didn't go over very well.

Oh, one other question? If the dance isn't being held in the gym, where else in the school do you have room for it?

Dont forget to provide lots of food and snacks. How about having Subway provide some party subs?

I know they asked parents to donate things. My mom donated cookies my Junior year.

We are in a brand new building this year and the commons area is a large open area that is used as the cafeteria during lunch. It is much nicer than a regular cafeteria, but the students are upset that the prom is being held there. That is one reason we are looking at going out somewhere, unfortunately at this late date, so many places are already booked.

Started thinking along the lines of setting the gym up like a night club effect, with a stage and have scheduled entertainment, drawings etc - but that just sounds BORING!! We want something that will make the students want to come and have fun while there.

Alll of your after prom activities sound like our school's project graduation. We do those type of things graduation night. As far as prom I get really aggravated because so much goes into planning prom food, music, prizes, fancy dresses & tuxes etc. and our kids want to make an appearance and then go do something else like putt putt, bowling and I'm sure some of them have parties. I don't get it prom ought to be special. Last year when my son was a senior you could win prizes even cash but you had to be there and alot of our students were there for about an hour.

While you are thinking why not ask the kids for some ideas ? Have an announcement with morning announcements for instance. With the ease of e-mail etc they could send you some ideas easily and you may get an idea of what they would be interested in doing and coming to. Good luck!

How about posting this question on the Teen Board as well? You might get some great ideas from teens who've gone in the last few years.

My old high school has had a casino night for after prom as well as a cruise ship theme another year.
