Planning Strategy? Newbie question.

I am thinking about buying between 150-200 at SSR. If I want to go but stay at a different resort - how do I plan? Book the week I want at SSR 11 months out- and then start calling at 7 month point to see if I can switch? And if I can't - no big deal- because at least I have my res for ssr?

Also to book 11 months out do you have to own 100% of the points you are going to use for that ressie? Meaning- what if I own 50 points at OKW and 100 at SSR- Can I book a 150 vacation at SSR 11 months out? I am a total newbie so I hope these questions make sense!

At 11 months, you can only book your home resort.
Example:
100 points @ SSR you can make ressies at only SSR
50 points @ OKW you can only book OKW

At 7 months, you can combine those 150 points to make ressies at any DVC resort.

You can always book the most important days with your pts--like Sun thru Thurs nights, since you can usually get the weekends. Then switch at 7 months, and finish booking the weekends at that time. If you are trying for a GV, BW view, or standard view at BW--well, just realize that those things may not be available. That's why so many of us have add-on contracts at those resorts that are hard to get into.
