Planning Session for layout of album

Does anyone or has anyone done the planning session over the phone for the layout of your wedding album? I've picked out some pictures, but I'm just not sure what to expect for this appt. how do they help you do the layout over the phone? Sorry, I'm just not really getting how this all works. Thanks in advance for any help!
