Planning our Wilderness Lodge Adventure! Nov 8-15 ~ We are back!

Congratulations! :woohoo:

Thank you! I still gotta call Disney-hope to do that tonight!

We're going to build your confidence here...

First off, you're using dental floss... think of it as fancy flossing! It's not thread. Nope. It's not. Just some stuff from the dentist that you're adding to your shirt!

Second off, this is the easiest kind of sewing to do. You're only doing one layer, no joining things together. Just follow the pencil line with semi-even stitches (but don't get hung up if they're different sizes... it's not super critical)

Third off, it's tye dye... it's an art, not a science! :)

You did build my confidence! If the stitches don't have to be even, that is a very good thing and makes it much more likely that I will have some success. I'm going to talk to DH, see what his thoughts are and next time we are in a size bigger than a mini fridge, I'll hit up a craft store! Did you buy a tye-dying kit?

Planning = Gud
Domino's = Indigestion (but it = Gud when you're on a train, watching the beautiful scenery go by!)

::yes::

We thought about going the day before our flight leaves for Disney, but DH can't get off of work until noon so we won't get down there until 2-2:30. Plus we didn't want to wear ourselves out walking around and consuming various items on a stick knowing what we'd be leaving for the next day! How about you? I was a 4-Her (the city type, no animals here) growing up so I have many fond memories of living at the fair for a few days each summer... good times, good times!

Ya, the various items on a stick can cause some serious gut rot! You don't want that before Disney. Gotta save gut rot for eating around the World. :teeth: I forgot you were going so soon!

We are thinking about going to the State Fair on the 30th. It's our only free weekend in August.

I'll work on planning our camping trip and see if we can meet up (if ya want!). I'm not sure I want to attempt tye-dying while on my mini-vacation (too much stress! ), but, maybe somethin' else...? I should really just PM you!

:dance3: HAPPY DAY!

Yes, very happy day! An extra day of Disney World and lots more planning to do!!!!!! :yay:

08-08-2008 - Adding an extra day! Pop here we come!!!

So, as I mentioned above, DH and I have decided to go a day early! We have thrown around this idea from the start, but it's OFFICIAL. Our vacation now starts on November 8! I gotta change my TR title, and please note my siggy below is already updated. :goodvibes

With adding a day, comes changes, of course! We are staying at Pop Century on the 8th, a hotel I have heard so many great things about and am excited to check out! MeMom's TRs are what made me want to try Pop, and looking at all her detailed pictures have just made me all the more excited.

Last night DH and I looked over our current schedule and discussed what to do that first full day, our old arrival day. It was planned for no parks, just rest and relax, but since we'd be doing that already on our new arrival day, I certainly didn't want to "waste" an entire day! But DH said he didn't want to "commando" it to the parks either.

We went through a few ideas and then our conversation went something like this:

DH: "You know what I'd REALLY like to do?"
Me: "What?"
DH: "Go to Epcot, to those little stores and eateries, from all the countries."
Me: <almost leaping off the couch>"The Worldshowcase! That's a FANTASTIC idea!"
DH: "Ya, we can nibble on various foods from all the countries and check out the stores."

I just love it, love it, love it! In 2006 we didn't really get a chance to do that much, and I've seen so many neat things we missed. And HELLO?! Eat around the World?! COUNT ME IN BABY! :woohoo:

I also found a vital error in my planning. Thank heavens I found it. I had booked a Boma breakfast on our Magic Kingdom day when I very, very, very much want to go to the Main Street Bakery for breakfast that day. So, here are the new plans:

Arrival Day-DTD, Festival of the Masters - Saturday, November 8:
Lunch: Pop Century Food Court
Dinner at a resort (see more about this below)

Epcot - World Showcase - Sunday, November 9:
Breakfast - 1 CS meal either at Pop or WL
Lunch: "Eat around the world"
Dinner: 'Ohana

Hollywood Studios Day - Monday, November 10:
Lunch: 50's Prime Time
Dinner: Mama Melrose

Animal Kingdom Day - Tuesday, November 11:
Lunch: Yak & Yeti
Dinner: Wolfgang Pucks Express - 1 CS

No parks day - Wednesday, November 12:
BOMA SHOULD GO HERE

Lunch: Earl of Sandwich - 1 CS
Dinner: Whispering Canyon Cafe

Magic Kingdom Day- Thursday, November 13:

Breakfast: Main Street Bakery - 1 CS
Garden View Room Tea
Dinner - CS (Cosmic Rays or Columbia Harbor House?)

Epcot Day AGAIN! - Friday, November 14:
Lunch: Sunshine Seasons - 1 CS
Dinner: LeCellier

Going home day - Saturday, November 15:
Breakfast: Kona

Our next discussion was where to eat the first night, the 8th. I was thinking cheap CS. But, DH said he wanted a sit down meal and asked about what resorts we were already eating at. He really wants to eat at the Contemporary, so I mentioned 'The Wave' and he didn't really seem interested, then...

DH: "Isn't there one where we eat with Mickey?"
Me: "Ya, Chef Mickeys."
DH: "Where's that?"
Me: "The Contemporary."
DH: "Really? Book it! Let's do that!"
Me: "You want a character meal?"
DH: "Ya! I want to experience it!"

So, we are going to attempt to get Chef Mickeys for the 8th and experience our very first character meal!

I was going to call today and do the reservations, but we have good friends getting married tomorrow and tonight was the Groom's Dinner (DH is the Best Man). So tomorrow afternoon, before the wedding, I hope to move that Boma, get Chef Mickeys and settle up our Pop Century bill.

Our airfare was right around $215 a person, which is less than what we paid in 2006. :thumbsup2

Tonight I hope to catch up on some TRs I'm subscribed to and do some more research on Pop and the food court! I want to try that Tie-Dye cheesecake for sure...yummmmm

Hooray! Your trip just gets better and better!

Hooray! Your trip just gets better and better!

:goodvibes It feels so unreal to me!

Sounds like an awesome plan! I'm so excited for you guys!! :cool1:

Thank you!!

The only thing I'm a bit concerned about is that the CM (who was soooo nice, and I was actually going to take the survey and give her high points, but I didn't get a survey!) mentioned that she wasn't sure at Pop if they would move our luggae to WL on the 9th. 2 bags+baby+stroller+carry ons=one giant headache transferring resort to resort. :headache:

I am going to give Pop a call and ask about this service. And if they don't do it, then I'm going to call the WL and ask them if they will do it! And if neither will, I'm thinkin' we'll taxi it to save the annoyance on our vacation. I REALLY hope they do it though - it's just silly if they don't!

Today:
-Call Disney, move Boma, hopefully book Chef Mickey's. Settle Pop bill.
-Call Pop, ask about bag service.
-Research on foods 'around the world' to munch on during our first day! DH is the type to just fly by the seat of his pants with this, but I want to plan out exactly what I want to get so I don't fill up things that aren't the BEST.

I do know Schoolbread is one on my list!

08-09-2008 - Looking back...

Last night as I was putting the quick link into my first post on this thread, and adjusting my PTR title, I saw the pictures of Henry at 5 months old when I started this PTR. He was so tiny! (Okay, not so much, he's NEVER been tiny, he's Mr. 10 pound 3 ounces! :rotfl2: )

I started looking at old(er) pictures of him and had to post a few...

I've been checking in, but I am reading so many reports right now, it is hard to keep up with everyone.

Your little smiley-faced boy is going to light up when he eats with Chef Mickey! That's a great way to start a trip. The characters just played with Brooklynn and she had a ball! We're eating there again on Thanksgiving Day!

Since we've sold you on a stay at Pop, I'm hoping it'll be good to you. It won't compare to your time at a deluxe, but it's fun to check out many different resorts. They all have things that are unique to them and you get different Disney experiences.

Schoolbread is yummy - very sweet and very big, so you can easily share between two of you.

Henry has grown up so much since you started this pre-trip report. He's starting to get that "toddler" look as opposed to the baby look.

Brook, your trip plans are really coming together. I'm getting excited for you! :goodvibes

Henry is adorable and is growing up so fast.

I'm sure you'll get a quick answer on the Resorts Board about POP moving your luggage over to the WL.

I know what you mean about reading so many TRs...I find myself in the same situation! :goodvibes

I am looking forward to Henry meeting the characters-I'll have that camera ready and clicking away.

I am sure we will love staying at Pop, I've heard so many great things about it. When we first started out our planning I was thinking Moderate or Pop, but DH insisted on a Deluxe. So our quick little cheap trip has turned into being longer and more expensive than I ever thought. But, we have the budget, so it'll be just fine-and a great way to celebrate Henry's birthday and our anniversary!

DH isn't a fan of coconut, but I'm sure he'll try the school bread anyway because he is a fan of sweets.

I know! It makes me sad :sad1: Yet, it's so exciting to watch him grow up an learn.

Thank you! Yes, he is growing up so, so fast. He learns something new everyday it seems.

I called Pop yesterday and the very kind woman resassured me that Bell Services would take care of our luggage-no problem. :thumbsup2

08-10-2008 - Speciality Photopass Pictures

I read a LOT of TRs and I always love people's Photopass pictures. In 2006 we did not get very many, maybe 12 or 15 total out of our entire week there. While it would have been nice to have these pictures from our Honeymoon, it just was not worth $100 for a dozen digital pictures. Plus, I noticed over these past two years, there are many "speciality" Photopass pictures - ones where the photographer puts in Tink, or Captain Hook. We didn't get anything like this - AND, the worst thing, when we were at MK, they were working on the castle, so our castle pics had a GIANT crane in the back:

IMG_0770Small.jpg

So anyway, for this trip I REALLY want to get some great pictures. I started doing some research on the speciality photos. A thread on here led me to an external site in which I found this!

What: Tinker Bell - in your palm
Where: Magic Kingdom - On Main Street, USA or around the castle
Epcot - In front of Spaceship Earth
When: Most times

What: Captain Hook - sword fight
Where: Magic Kingdom - by Pirates of the Caribbean
When: Most times

What: Ghost - in a carriage
Where: Magic Kingdom - Haunted Mansion
When: Mornings (or when Disney's PhotoPass Photographer is there)

What: Baby Simba - in your arms
Where: Disney's Animal Kingdom - Discovery Island
When: Most Times

Who: Stitch - coming out of the ground
Where: Disney's Hollywood Studios - Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards
When: Most times

Who: Stitch - on a bench eating ice cream
Where: Magic Kingdom - Main Street, USA
Epcot
Disney's Hollywood Studios - Between 2-3pm only
When: Most times

Who: Mickey, Minnie and Goofy - in a hang glider
Where: Epcot - between the Fountain of Nation stage and World Showcase Plaza
When: Most times

Who: Mickey Mouse - on a bench with you
Where: Disney's Hollywood Studios
When: Between 2-3pm

Who: Minnie Mouse - on a bench with you
Where: Disney's Hollywood Studios
When: Between 2-3pm

Who: Lilo - taking a picture of you
Where: Disney's Hollywood Studios
When: Between 2-3pm

I have seen some of these on the DIS, but others seem really rare. I've also found the key to getting these is asking for them, as most of the photographers don't seem to offer.

I showed my DH a sample of some of the pictures from other TRs and he even thought they were neat! He REALLY liked the sword fight with Hook.

He also caught a glimpse of a countdown calendar from a PTR and asked what it was..."A countdown calendar." (Silence) "Yes, I'll be making one, a very nice woman on the DIS (Camster0307) is sending me the Mickey Heads!" (Giant eye roll). "You love it!" He just laughed and walked away. :rotfl2:

Love the pictures of Henry! What a cutie pie! They grow up so fast! We were just looking at baby pictures with DS the other day... seems just like yesterday and now he starts kindergarten in less than a month!

I called Pop yesterday and the very kind woman resassured me that Bell Services would take care of our luggage-no problem. :thumbsup2

WHEW!

Hi Brook!:wave2: Of course, I had to follow you over from my pre-tr. I didn't want to post until I read through your whole TR - finally finished today!

First of all, can I just say - you're little Henry - what a mush! I just want to squeeze those cheeks of his! And does he smile 24/7? He looks like such a happy baby!

Loved your pix from NYC! I miss it too. I'm a Jersey girl - born and raised right across the river from Manahattan and worked there for 6 years before I was made to move to New England. I laughed out loud about your thoughts on Times Square - I'm with ya on that! I used to walk everyday from my office on 52nd and 7th down to Port Authority. I would get to the Times Square area and just put my head down and push on through. Hated wednesdays the most - matinee day!:headache:

Couple of thoughts on your Disney plans (and I apologize if some of this has been mentioned). I know you're arriving on the 8th now - did you know it's the last weekend of F&W Festival at Epcot. We're coming in on the 8th also and I plan on spending most of my Sat. afternoon sampling the treats. It alot of fun!

SSW has been pushed back to the weekend of Nov.14-16th; although I hear the soap fans are too busy attending the special events at DHS that it leaves the rides very open. Just thought I'd mention.

We have the Mama Melrose Fantasmic pkg. booked too - but we'll be there on that Wed. I've got to tell you though - the reserved seating is not necessarily the best seating in the place - it's off to the right hand side. When we just went in Feb., we didn't do the package, went to the second show of the night, and DD and I had no problem scoring 3rd row, center seats. I know you may not want to be that close because of Henry - truly, it gets very hot from the fire down there, but don't think you need the package to get a great seat. Just something to keep in mind if you don't want to spring for the meal at Mama Melrose's.

Are you going to a MVMCP? It's alot of fun!

Ok, I'll stop rambling now. I look forward to following along with your plans. And, btw, I sent you a PM - mission accoomplished today!;)

Hello and welcome!!

Thank you for the compliments on Henry! He is a very happy baby and often smiling and laughing--but he does have his moments....:rolleyes1 ;)

I cannot even fathom having to walk through Times Square on a regular basis...ugh! DH and I talk often about moving back. He never lived there, but he loves it as much as I do. If we end up not moving back, our current annual trip will continue as a must, I get heartsick for it if I'm gone too long!

THANK YOU FOR REMINDING ME ABOUT F&W! I've been asked a couple times on here if we plan on hitting F&W, and being that we were flying in on Sunday and had no plans for the parks, I was thinkin' we wouldn't. In 2006 we were there right in the middle of it all and didn't really get into it-but we were first timers and more focused on the rides. This tirp will be much different with a baby, PLUS, we currently plan on "eating around the world" on Sunday because we are coming in on Saturday now! I had TOTALLY forgotten about F&W! It just works out so perfect. We planned to eat around the world, and bonus :yay: F&W will be happening! SCORE! All the regular goodies plus some! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Good to hear about SSW - we'll be at Epcot on the 14th, so hopefully they are all over at DHS!

Mama Melrose---I mostly booked this because DH is an Italian foodie. He loves him some pasta/pizza/anything doused with cheese and/or sauce. I opted to cancel the Fantasmic package because DH is legally blind, I'm hoping there are seats in the handicapped section that we can sit in. We didn't have a problem using those seats last time (for LMA and Indiana Jones)-if he sat farther back he wouldn't be able to see or enjoy the show. I am concerned about the heat though with Henry...how long does the heat last? Is it just a quick blast, or several minutes long? Maybe I can run up the bleachers or something...

MVMCP - we are not going...we had a discusison about it, but it goes late, and well past Henry's normal bedtime-which I'm sure won't be that closely followed-but I want to be in the room winding down as it gets later...hoping to avoid a meltdown. :goodvibes We figured it would be something more enjoyable for both us and Henry when he was a bit older. I told DH the little I know about it and I could tell he was interested, so hopefully in a couple years we will get to experience the snow on Main Street!

Thank you again for the Mickey Heads!! I got your PM and laughed out loud picturing you darting in there, snagging and bolting out. Then quickly reviewing your new stash in the car. :rotfl: I don't know if it went anything like that, but it's how I pictured it all! I'm excited to get them and looking forward to making my countdown in about 60 days!

I gotta research what foods are being offered at F&W...:surfweb: :teeth:

WHEW!

Oh man, kindergarten...I will be sobbing!

And yes, a big relief. Pushing a baby in a stroller while dealing with luggage and carry ons-ick. Very grateful for Bell Services! :goodvibes

08-16-2008 - 84 Days and not a whole lot to say

I don't really have much of an update, but here is a bit of info.

1) Henry managed to rip the #1 key off my laptop keyboard. Not sure how he did it, but good thing the laptop is still under warantee!

2) I am so, so, so, happy to finally be in the double-digits for our trip!

3) Today our company had a picnic for the employees at a lovely park about an hour away from where we live. After the park, DH, Henry and I ventured to a nearby shopping area where we got some clothes that FIT. Our weight loss has been awesome (over 50 pounds between us!) and none of our clothing fits properly. We only got a few things because we both planning on loosing more weight, but its lovely to have pants that actually fit on your waist.

4) In this shopping area I also insisted we quickly stop at Michaels. I ran in and bought some Disney stickers (and encountered a VERY non-Disney-esque person also buying some) for my future countdown. I want to rip them open and plaster them everywhere, but have resisted so far.

IMG_8809Small.jpg

Isn't this the truth?
IMG_8810Small.jpg

5) An indivdiual at work on my team has a little boy, and he mentioned that his son and wife are going to Disney World NEXT WEEK!! I'm completely jealous. He knew I would be. He knew I loved Disney World, but I don't think he quiet got the grasp of my obsession/sickness until I spoke with him for near an hour about things. I can tell he has the Disney sickness as well, even though he says it's all his wife....whom is often on these boards! He said she doesn't post very often, and he didn't know her username, but hopefully he will know on Monday and I can find her! Anyway, they are staying at Pop Century and taking advantage of free dining. I asked to be stuffed into the suitcase. ;)

6) DH and I are putting the house on the market tomorrow. Last time we had it on was before Henry was born. We had a total of 3 showings in 6 months. Ugh. Hopefully this time it will SELL.

7) It is way past my bedtime on a Saturday night.

9) I just discovered my down arrow key is also not working. Hmmm...I gotta call Dell!

You should have ripped open one of Tink :tinker: and stuck it on that person's forehead and told them in your sweetest voice to "Have a Magical Day!"

Once you get a DISer started, it's hard to stop a DISer!

Good luck with that!

Was it the DIS or the Olympics that are keeping you up?! When I'm on here AND watching the Olympics I feel like I enter a space, a whole new dimension, where I lose all track of all time.

9) I just discovered my down arrow key is also not working. Hmmm...I gotta call Dell!
"Henry????"

Congratulations on the double digits.

How often have we done this?!?!? Just say Disney once, and we're on a roll!!!

"Henry????"

:rotfl: Oh that would have been HILARIOUS!! I wish I had thought of that. She was just yelling non-stop at two 5 year old girls. Hello lady, you are with 5 year old girls looking at PRINCESS STICKERS. They are gonna be just slightly excited... and yes, lo and behold, they want them ALL. Shocker, isn't it? :lmao:

It was the DIS keeping me up. I actually haven't watched any of the Olympics! I keep forgetting it's on. :sad2: The DIS and the fact that we got home pretty late and I cleaned up our kitchen/dumping ground for every random piece of paper and junk mail.

The down key suddenly works again this morning. :confused3 But my 1 will not go back on at all despite my many attempts. It makes my millions of !!!! very difficult to make!! ;)

How often have we done this?!?!? Just say Disney once, and we're on a roll!!!

So very, very true. I think my co-worker is also a secret DISer. Either that or a very good listener to his wife, he knew a lot of tidbits. And despite me saying "Disboards" to my husband 985,000 times a day, he couldn't tell you the URL to this site if he were paid!

We'll probably admit the depth of our sickness someday in shame, but be relieved when we realize we are two peas in a pod! I think on Monday I'll ask him if his wife ever writes trip reports. :goodvibes

I just added a couple pics of my stickers in my previous update. Winnie the Pooh, Cars, some generic travel ones and some really fun Disney World trip themed ones.
