Now that so many schools are scheduling school breaks in the fall (and since those dates seem to be all different), I thought it might be helpful for folks to post when their schools will be taking a break in October. Even if you are not planning to go to WDW in October, the info would be helpful
I will try to keep this post updated as we go along.

Thanking you all in advance

That is a nice long break!

We love our long Fall Break - it is a great time to travel. On the down side, summer vacation is June and July, back to school August 1. We are 9wks on, 2wks off August through May.

the week of Columbus Day....always, so whenever that is. I haven't looked at the calendar.
We will be there until the 18th.

That sounds ideal, I dislike the tradition school year, summer is long, hot and boring, to have long breaks not associated with holidays throughout the year would be lovely.

We hit WDW mid Oct., 4 of 5 trips we avoided Columbus Day weekend and thought the crowds very manageable. In 2013 we arrived the Thurs before that holiday, left the Fri After. Never again. Maybe it was a fluke, maybe it's the start of a trend but that weekend and Monday had large crowds which receded later. We're avoiding that weekend this year arriving on the 16th.

I'm a little confused is this fall break something new? I've never had a fall break for a week or more in sept or oct, I live in New England.. Is this something new with the schools? Or just a one year thing??

We always go to Disney in October, would be a little bummed if it picked up a lot during that time of year too but hey Disney is worth it always either way :)

Thanks Bill

You found the dates prior to Columbus Day were busy - that does sound like a tie in to school fall breaks. Maybe we will find out on this thread, lol!

I am in Central Indiana we have fall break this year the week of October 20. In years past, it was only 2 days. So this is great.

We fly out on the 18th to head to the World :).

I think it is a relatively new thing. Shorter summer break and additional fall breaks. I thought it was more of a southern thing, but I am not so sure now. We do not have a fall break in my area of South Carolina, but I can see pros and cons. Pro -your vacation time is in the fall, which is really nice here. Con - cooling the schools down has to be costing an arm and a leg - and our buses are not air conditioned. Nothing like a bus full of sweaty kids in hot buses - yikes!

We are in SE Tennessee. Our fall break has been all over the month of October in the past. For 2014, it will be the week of Oct. 5-11.

Sister's kids in Bloomington Indiana have off the week before Columbus Day. :) They are headed to Disney! (we're headed down week after Columbus day)
