planning DVC trip with a 6 month old

We're about to make our first trip with a baby. We've been taking our son to WDW since he was 3, so we didn't really have to deal with the baby issues.
We booked this trip before we knew we would have a baby in the family; we were matched with a birthmother in December, several months after we'd made our DVC reservations for this trip. I'm not really sure how traveling with a 6 month old is likely to work. We really couldn't easily move the trip, as we're traveling with another family, staying on our points at Kidani.

We've never stayed at Kidani Village before, although we've stayed at Jambo multiple times. Is there room in the master bedroom for a pack n play? We're planning to bring our own wipes, diapers, formula, etc, but is there a place nearby to purchase supplies if we run out?

I know babies in swim diapers can't go in pools. Is there a water play area she can splash in anywhere at AKV? What about other resorts we could hop to? We can pool hop if we need to, but I'd rather not. (I also think we couldn't bring our guests if we did, since they're not DVC members, so that isn't an ideal solution.)

I'm expecting I'll spend a lot more time in the room looking at animals than I was planning to. Are there any rooms or areas we should request for either views or convenience? We're in a 2 bedroom lock-off savannah view.

Thanks in advance.

Congrats on your new baby!

Kidani has a fabulous water play area for toddlers, though I'm not sure how much a 6 month old can play :)

There is a Publix pretty close by....if you google it it will come up (just type the address for Kidani in, click get directions and type in Publix).

I think Kidani will work well for you, it is quiet and peaceful. The savannah view will be nice since you will have something to look at when the baby is napping. You may want to request close to lobby just so you don't have to push a stroller 1/4 mile to get to your room.

I always order diapers and baby supplies from Amazon before the trip and ship it to the resort. They were good about getting our package for us when we check in.

Have fun!

I don't have any advice as we don't have our own kids yet. I just wanted to say congratulations on your new baby!!! Of course the timing may not be as you would have planned, but what a wonderful celebration for your new family member. Just plan to take it slow, and enjoy every moment!

Congratulations on your new daughter!

Per the MS website http://dvc.disney.go.com/dvc/member/perk/memberPerkDetail?id=MemberPerkDisneyPoolHoppingDetailPage -

When staying on your Membership at Disney's Vero Beach Resort or any DVC Resort at the Walt Disney World Resort, you and any Guests staying with you are permitted to use most of the other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the resort hotel at which you are staying) if they are not at capacity.

So if you really wanted to pool hop you could to resorts that allow it as long as you and your guests are staying on your points and there are some dates that are blocked off too.

I also read that you won't be able to take the baby on any ride that has a height requirement. Just a reminder about the Switch and Ride Program so you and your husband can switch and each of you take your son on rides while the other remains with the baby.

Thanks for the congratulations! We're thrilled, but we're still a little in shock about the new little princess in the family. (You'd think we'd be prepared after years of infertility treatments and a year and a half waiting to be matched, but we're still finding it hard to believe.)

We'd never really planned on taking a baby to WDW; we'd always planned to try out a Disney cruise when we finally got our daughter and take a break from the parks. (We've cruised a lot, just not with Disney, and we took DS on his first cruise at 7 months. We thought cruising with a baby would be much easier than visiting WDW.) We'd been booking WDW vacations while waiting, since we thought it would be easier to cancel or move our DVC vacations than cancel or move a cruise. But since we're taking friends with us this time, and it is their daughter's first trip to WDW, we just couldn't see canceling the trip on them. So, we're doing what I told myself we wouldn't do, and we're taking her with us.

DS has actually been planning her trip. ("We'll take her on It's a Small World, because it's definitely not too scary for babies!")

We've been debating how much to carry her in the Baby Bjorn and how much to use a stroller. If anyone has any insight, we'd appreciate it.

She may actually really enjoy a toddler water play area, which is why I was curious. She absolutely loves water. Bathtime is her probably her favorite time of the day. Is the toddler water area near the pool?

How do you have amazon deliver to the hotel? That sounds like it could be a great idea, but how does it work?

Congrats!

I found 6 months to be near perfect. Alert enough to seem to enjoy some sights/action, but still likes stroller time (which becomes difficult once they prefer crawling)
I recall a wading pool at Jambo, and that main pool is zero entry if other kids are not all around splashing. (But I don't remember that much water interest at that age).

Congrats on your new princess!

We first took my son to WDW at 9 months. We took it slow and easy and had a great trip. We carried him some in a Ring Sling (our carrier of choice!) and strolled him some. It was just back and forth depending on his mood. However, we never would have been able to do this with my 2nd son. He just didn't take to the carriers. So, you'll have to judge what she likes and go with it.

I know that swim diapers on not allowed in pools on cruises, but I know we have taken our kids in the pools in swim diapers at WDW. Are you sure that's a rule at WDW? (Or were we RULE BREAKERS?!)

we had our DGS in the pools in swim diapers the last 2 years. I'm pretty sure the signs posted are that babies/toddlers. must be in swim diapers to use the pool. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Congratulations Golden Rose! Our family was made through adoption also. And like you we had our trip planned before we knew 2nd DD was coming (we had 2 wks notice :scared1:), so on that trip she was 9 months old.

Honestly, it was one of the best trips we have had. We took her on every ride that does not have a height requirement, so there is no need to be stuck in your room. And we have the cutest pics with her with the characters.

We have always done a grocery delivery, and we also ship a box from home.

I suggest a clip on fan for your stroller, especially if you are going in the warmer times. Also, the baby care centers are a great place to cool down and recharge. For our first trip with her, I found the front sling to be indispensable.

Have a great time!

Kids certainly CAN be in swim diapers at the resorts. Did it all the time....It's the standard in Florida.

Cruise ships are different, but only recently. They used to allow babys in swim diapers in them until all the Norwalk concerns.

Congrats! :thumbsup2 There is plenty of room in the King room for the pack and play. Kidani is a great resort with a Baby! The fan suggustion is a great suggustion. I would also bring the teething rattles you put in the freezer. That may help to keep the baby cool and bring a mister.

Make sure you stop and get your baby a 1st Trip pin from MK! Also, one thing dh, dd (6) and I always do is take a picture of us at each resort in front of the Welcome Home Sign or a resort sign. Our DD was 1 yr old on her 1st trip and we have pictures of us as a family at DVC every year. It is fun to look at how she has grown! I have one book I update every year with the next picture! We started wearing Disney gear with the current year, but after the 4th year with pretty much the same shirts, we decided to shirts were not worth the $$ since they look the same!

Have fun making your own memories!
