Planning Dilemma: WWYD?

So, I'm planning a big 40th birthday trip for myself to WDW in *, and am feeling frustrated trying to weigh my options.

Here's my dilemma:
*My ideal would be to rent points in a DVC unit, both for the space and quality of accomodations, and because I've been thinking about buying for over a year now and feel like this would be the obvious next step. I know I can tour units while there, but would prefer to stay in one and have the full experience.
*I expect that we'll be travelling with at least ** people + infant (my folks are coming), so we'd either need to rent ** or 2 regular hotel rooms. Looking at moderate resorts, as priced before discounts, it looks like that would cost us about the same amount-around $3000, assuming $10 a point.
*THis makes staying in the villa really cheaper, as we're happy to cook while on vacation and would save lots on food.

HOWEVER, if Disney comes out with a killer discount, like 4/3, or free dining, then that changes things dramatically. If all of the sudden the hotel room will cost about half the cost of the villa, I'll have a much harder time spending all 3 grand (especially since money saved can be applied towards purchase price).

A couple more details about us. We definitely like the parks, more than just being in the hotel room, but I expect we'll take things a little slower than normal due to having a baby with us this time. We like to take naps back in the room, and normally swim, though that might not be as likely in ** . My folks are very easy to travel with, so sharing with them should work fine. We've stayed at Port Orleans before and have been perfectly happy there. We will be paying cash for this vacation either way.

What would you do in my shoes?

Happy 4oth!

OK...my 2 cents:

I dont know of Disney deals from **, that is the "busy" time at Disney and they usually dont do promos during that time. That doesnt mean they WOULDNT or COULDNT, but historically, doesnt happen.

I say, experience the DVC way, rent the points, do the meal plan and have a great bday

Hi all. This thread has been edited to remove details such as dates, villa size, resort, points etc. so as not to be construed as a seeking rental post. Those details may only be posted on our DVC Rent/Trade Board.

Thank you ..

Sorry about that, Carol. Is it OK if I just say that I want to go early next year, prior to the beginning of the busy spring break season: in other words, early enough that I hate waiting til November to book, but also early enough to avoid the huge crowds that come in the very early spring? I promise I'm not fishing for a rental :) just looking for advice.

Kim, thanks for the perspective. You make a good point-there is definitely something super appealing about doing the whole "DVC experience"-though I don't think I could justify DDP AND a villa rental (with a toddler and a baby, having to eat out every meal doesn't sound very fun, for more reasons than just price. And, since most of us enjoy cooking in my family and usually cook all our meals when we rent a condo together in Hawaii, it's not super burdensome to eat meals in our room).

It's kinda hard to understand your post with all the editing.

What I am getting is that you are trying to decide between a DVC villa big enough for your family plus your parents v/s two regular hotel rooms at a possible discount. Depending on the DVC resort you're thinking of, you can probably wait a bit to make your decision. The last 7-for-4 deal that you're talking about was offered in November. If you're OK with OKW or SSR then you should be OK with waiting until Winter/Spring discounts are offered. If you want to book at one of the other DVC resorts outside the 7-month window you are likely to spend more than only $10 per point. That is rock bottom pricing.
