I thought I had a grasp on understanding my points but some recent topics around here have made me question my understanding. I'm planning some trips over the next few years which will utilize banking and borrowing from my two contracts and I just want to make sure I'm not misunderstanding something which will cause me to leave points expiring. I presently own an AK contract with a September UY, and a SS contract with a December UY.

I'm planning a DL trip which I'll attempt to get a One Bedroom at VGC which will be 235 points for the week. The plan was to use 100 points banked from SS 21' (just reopened), 103 points from AK 22' (currently banked) and 32 points from SS 22'. The SS points would be transferred into the AK contract just to make things easier.

With my Sept UY I would be able to begin booking a room in February, but only for part of the trip as I'm planning on the bulk of the points coming from my Dec contract, which would mean having to wait until May to finish securing the remaining days.

My belief is that my banked AK would be used toward this reservation as they would once again be allocated to me prior to this trip occurring and they would be the older points so they should be used first. But I want to make sure I'm not misunderstanding this and the new 23' points wouldn't be borrowed in order to make the reservation because at the time of booking the 22' points are still banked and can't be touched.

When is the trip? It’s hard to answer without that info.

Also you can not book a single reservation when your points are in two memberships.

You will have to book some nights in each and ask MS to link and note it’s a continuous stay so you don’t have to change rooms.

The trip is in September of 23' and the reason for having the points transferred from the SS contract into the AK contract is so that it can be one single reservation. Sorry thought I had listed when the trip would be but I must have skipped that and gone straight to my 7 month windows.

To clarify, the 11- and 7-month windows are based on the start date of your reservation, not your UY. You can make a September 2023 at the 7-month window starting in February for any of your contracts (e.g. using December 2022 points and/or September 2023 points based on your UYs).

Yes you are correct and I should know this as I've done it before; I think I confused myself on this after reading someone elses booking experience. But I believe their situation was a mix of using their 11 month ability and then having to wait for their 7 month window which makes sense.

First, banked points are not usually allowed to be transferred but they have made a few exception’s lately for an owner who was moving between their own memberships

I was allowed to move 5 of them. Transferring points though does not change when they can be used and you can not borrow points that have been transferred.

So, a September 2023 trip will happen in your Sept 2023 UY and in your Dec 2022 UY.

The eligible points would be from your Sept UY, banked 2022, 2023, and borrowed 2024.

For the Dec UY, it would be banked 2021, 2022, and borrowed 2023, assuming no transfer.

If you want to transfer the SSR points, the only ones eligible are your Dec 2022 UY. You can’t borrow the 2023 UY points for that trip if you transfer them.

It sounds like the only issue you could have are the 100 banked SSR points. That would require an exception to the transfer rule to have all points you want to use in your Sept UY membership and to book all nights as one reservation.

Also, the system will automatically use up any of your own AKV banked and borrowed points before it will use any of the transferred SSR points.
