Tips, hints, recommendation? Not for me... my daughter... who is a DisneyChickie - lots of trips, two time college program veteran, met her fiance while in Orlando (native but not a disney groupie) in 2007 - miles couldnt keep the two of them apart, they tried, gave in to destiny last year... now they want to get married in Orlando (we are in Jersey) -

The compromise, they get married in Orlando and do Disney the following day (ahahah is it any wonder) starting their married life off with magic!

Did you get married off property in Orlando on a budget?
Where did you have the reception?
What did it include?
How much?

I need ideas for everything including favors and guest accomadations - be nice to give one day passes for favors but dang thats way out of my league of affordability. I spent too much on her college, so the wedding must be modest, very modest.

thanks!

I would post your question on the DIS Wedding Board. There are lot of brides there who would love to help and have some fabulous ideas!

Have you considered hiring a wedding planner that specializes in destination weddings? In my experience, they can save you at least as much as they charge and usually more due to volume. They also usually know the area really well. Something to consider.

For REALLY budget, probably your best bet would be outdoors at one of the public park pavilions; there are a number of them near the lakes in the Orlando/Kissimmee area. The advantage to that is being able to take bids from many caterers. Stay away from hurricane season with this option, however; it isn't often kind to outdoor weddings.

Slightly up from that would be the public golf courses; many of them rent out their clubhouses for wedding receptions and allow ceremonies on the grounds. The City of Orlando also owns the historic Leu Gardens estate: http://www.leugardens.org/Weddings.html

Casa Feliz if really pretty, and not very pricey as these things go. The advantage of a historic home setting is that you really don't need much in the way of decorations. http://www.casafeliz.us/newmainhouse.html

The very best trick to keep wedding costs down is alternative scheduling. Having the party on a weekday can save you a fortune, and having it early and serving brunch instead of dinner is another great option. (My family has been associated with the wedding industry for decades now; we know most of the tricks.)

Well I have no experience here. But I did just stay at the Bahama Bay Resort in Davenport. The grounds are very pretty and tropical. It would also give guest spacious accomodations at a good price. I know they handle weddings I saw it advertised.

Check out Paradise Cove! Beautiful! There is another place called Leu Gardens that is stunning and affordable but a bit outside of Orlando and books up super fast. Celebration hotel also offers beautiful weddings but they are very pricey. How many people will she have? Anyone military? Shades of Green offers super prices and a lot of customization with some Disney perks. Swan & Dolphin is also an affordable option.

Definately check the wedding boards on the Dis. My DH and I were married in Disney in November 2008. We are from the NY/NJ area and 50 people came down to Disney to celebrate with us. The BEST thing we could have done. Our ceremony was in Italy in Epcot, our reception was in Atlantic Dance Hall on the Boardwalk and we had an IllumiNations Dessert Party later the same night back in Epcot in the UK. Not sure if she can get any discounts being a former castmember. There are all different types of wedding that Disney can do for different budgets. How many people are you planning on inviting?

Here is a picture from our ceremony.

My daughter met her husband while both were doing the college program at Disney. She grew up going to Disney....he grew up in Holland! Because they both met there, and his family had to travel from Holland, Disney seemed the perfect place to have the wedding. They were engaged on Christmas eve, 2009, and were married last August 5 at the Swan. Two weeks after the wedding she started her senior year of college, her sister started her junior year, and her brother started his freshman year; to say that money was an issue would be an understatement. We originally tried to limit the guest list to 23 in order to do a Disney Escape wedding, but that would have basically been only immediate family members and a bridesmaid! We had 7 months to plan and pay for the wedding. He and his parents traveled to Orlando from Holland in February, and the 6 of us spent a long weekend looking at venues and meeting with planners. We started with Disney, realized there was no way we could limit the guests for the Escape wedding, or afford the 12k for the Wishes wedding, so we looked at other options. The wedding and honeymoon board has a lot of information, but not a lot on Downtown Disney hotels. I found out all of them offer wedding packages, and most are flexible with vendors. The Buena Vista palace had the best ceremony location(a small gazebo) and ballroom, the Doubletree and Hilton uses Disney floral(if you want to pay for Disney touches), and the Hotel Royal Plaza had a nice reception area but not ceremony location. We found information on the wedding board about the Swan and Dolphin, and information on having the ceremony and reception at Fulton's. Fulton's did not appeal to my daughter at all, but she liked the Swan and Buena Vista Palace. Getting our first-choice reception space was a problem at both hotels, so we changed the date by a day and compromised on our first-choice ceremony location at the Swan. Everything worked out fine in the end. We booked the ceremony package through a wedding planner approved by the Swan(I think there are only two), and ordered what we wanted instead of going with a package that included things we would not use. We booked the basic package for @$2000, and had 50 guests at the Crescent Terrace. We added an arch and a different officiant for an extra fee, and upgraded the cake. I made the programs(fans) and the ribbon wands(not sure of the cost). For the reception, you are required to use Swan catering, even for the cake, but someone else posted on the wedding board that they were allowed to order the cake from another vendor. We were told we had to use the Swan for the cake, and it was not very good. The food was good, but it was as expensive as Disney. Dealing with the catering department was a big pain, as there is only ONE person that is over that department. I did not get a final total for the reception until the day of the wedding. We had an open bar, and I would not advise doing that, as that was a large portion of our cost. The Swan allowed us to bring our own centerpieces and book our own DJ. We booked DJ Miles, and he was the BEST! We booked our own photographers(the Arndts), and they were AWESOME! We definitely saved money by having the ceremony at the Swan, and had twice as many guests as Disney allows. I hope this helps a little!
